SoCal Pot Dispensary Owner Arrested

A Southern California medical marijuana dispensary owner awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to a drug conspiracy charge has been arrested for violating his release terms.

Authorities on Thursday said they arrested Virgil Grant III at a pot clinic he had just opened moments before. Sarah Pullen, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, says Grant was arrested because he wasn't supposed to associate with pot dispensaries while he was out on bond.

Grant pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana. He was scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 4.

Pullen says it's the first time the DEA has served a search warrant at a pot clinic in Southern California since the Obama administration loosened guidelines in October on federal prosecution in states where medical marijuana is allowed.
