CA - The South El Monte City Council will consider tonight whether to allow its first and only medical marijuana dispensary to open at 2112 Rosemead Blvd.

Under the two-year agreement being considered by the City Council, the dispensary would pay the city $1,000 a year to mitigate the business' impact on traffic and police services.

The business owner requested operating the dispensary seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., however the planning commission recommended shortening those hours to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Last month, the city council approved an ordinance allowing only one medical marijuana dispensary to open in the city of 21,000 people. That ordinance prohibits marijuana dispensaries within 500 feet of parks, schools, religious institutions or homes.

At least one other dispensary operator would like to open in the city. Currently no dispensaries operate there.

Tonight's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at 1415 N. Santa Anita Ave.
