A routine traffic stop of an alleged speeder Sunday night turned into a $160,000 marijuana bust in Monroe County, state police at Swiftwater said.

Troopers stopped Brian B. Brewer, 32, of Binghamton, at 7:15 p.m. Sunday after clocking him driving 76 mph in a 65 mph zone on northbound Interstate 380 in Pocono Township, state police said.

Police said Brewer consented to a search of his 2010 Nissan Altima and police located a large amount of marijuana in the car. Brewer was taken into custody and the car was towed to the Swiftwater barracks to process and weigh the drugs.

Police said the marijuana weighed 36 pounds worth $161,280 on the streets.

Brewer was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to Monroe County Correctional Facility under $25,000 bail.
