Spokane Billboard Advertises Local Marijuana Clinic

Washington - People wonder if a new billboard in North Spokane has crossed the line as it advertises a local marijuana dispenser.

The Cinder Cannabis Clinic has been open since November, but it is the first day customers are being lead in by a giant arrow that is already boosting business.

"A lot of people coming through our doors now," said Manager Joshua Ankney. " We don't have a lot of people saying they can't find us anymore, which is great."

The billboard towers over North Division and leads the way in marijuana marketing, which is not always easy. Pot shops are legal in Washington, but the state still has rules for how and where businesses can advertise.

One rule is that signs for shops must be one-square-yard, or less, which has got people wondering how the giant ad is legal.

The ad is legal because it is not on the same property as the business and it is over 1,000-feet away from the nearest school.

"Hopefully it gives us a one up. You know, I would imagine other stores will start following suit now that someone has kind of led the way," said Ankney. "That sign really has driven up business quite a bit."

As for the next step for bringing in customers, Ankney said he will look at Pinterest and Tumblr.
