MONTREAL - A 31-year-old Sûreté du Québec officer who serves near Quebec City was among 40 people arrested Wednesday in a major police anti-drug operation in the province.

The arrests were part of a year-long operation, code-named Floraison, during which police raided 14 grow-ops and seized 5,794 plants, 88 kilograms of marijuana, $52,000 in cash, five cars and a collection of guns.

Police said the illegal grow-ops, principally in the areas of Thetford Mines, the Beauce and Lotbinière, supplied the drug trade in Quebec City and Montreal.

About 125 officers from the SQ, the RCMP and municipal police forces in Quebec City, Ste. Marie de Beauce and Thetford Mines participated in the raids.

Six people were still being sought as of Wednesday night.
