DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa drug agents have had a busy year tracking down an illegal crop.

While the state is known for its corn and soybeans, state agents seized more than $20 million worth of marijuana plants in raids across the state in 2003.

According to the governor's drug policy office, it's the most prevalent illegal drug in Iowa.

In 2002, more than 14,000 Iowans who were screened or admitted to treatment programs reported marijuana as their primary drug of abuse. Almost 70 percent were under the age of 25.

Because marijuana continues to be the drug of choice among Iowa teenagers and young adults, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement continues its involvement in a national program to find and destroy the growing operations
