Story about my trip to the ER today. Hopsital Workers Reactions to ALL of my meds

I bet that If WE WERE to walk in to a HOSPITAL today @ 1:45pm and U.A all the Doctors,Nurse's & Specialist we would find 75% were on something that was not Prescribed, Given or told to take By a Doctor! Now Thats in Texas ,I can,t speck for others states wildman:thumb:

you got that right brother. I now for a fact that when a lot of workers leave the hospital, the first thing they want to do is go to the bar or go home and smoke a big fatty. Now that you mention it, I don't think anyone I know working in the medical field that does not smoke. Or worse yet have a drinking problem. Oh besides my doc that called me a pothead. he has a great bedsnide manner. all the workers I have talked to said they use mj because of the anxiety of what they see on the job. They drink to forget and smoke to feel.

Outstanding, In Texas I went to the ER with a broken Knee Cap and well they did a U.A on me & I was not worried Just because I do not do Hard Drugs other than what my Doctor give me But I do use Medical Cannabis from time to time and I was in Very Bad Pain and In walk this Doctor and He Just stood there for 2 to 3 Min JUST LOOKING AT ME and ask " How long have you been smoking DOPE? I was Just Taken Back due to My Knee was the size of a 12" BALL and all he would say is why did you not tell me your a pothead and went on and on and I finale told my wife get my pant's and we are Leaving even She was freaked out.WELL the Doctor said YOU CAN"T LEAVE AND I JUST KEPT HOBBLING OUT Well we left and the next Day I was able to go to my regular Doctor and I was a little apprehensive but He was Very Cool ABOUT IS AND SAID THAT THE ER DOCTOR WAS NEW AN Had a ego and He saw Kn ow Problem with using Medical cannabis Well he Now Has a Office in Northern California and I miss him and I bet You can get a O.K with him for Medical Cannabis . You were so Lucky ( I love Texas but it SUCKS)

Poor guy. I heard people living in Texas had it rough, but I never realized just how rough. Should have asked the tool how much speed he did to get through med school & residency.:ganjamon:

Hope your knee has suffered no permanent affects from your being persecuted in what should have been a place of healing.

Any other state, I'd probably ask you if you sued him for the "treatment" you received while (temporarily) under his "care." But I guess you were more concerned with getting out of there before they started piling firewood around that big stake out front.

You know what? I actually got a call the other day to follow up on my visit and they asked if I'd be ok with participating in an online or phone survey... blah blah and instead of the usual no thanks I was like YES YES PICK ME PICK ME... so, I kept them on the phone FOREVER about how great the docs and nurses were, etc... mentioned them by name and said how pleased I was about them being so compassionate and I appreciated that they were did not judge my me for requesting alternative options to pain prescriptions since I did not want to be groggy or kept from my normal activities and I was also impressed with how well informed they were when it came to giving me information about my condition and aftercare treatment. At the end of the phone survey, the guy asked if there was anything I was unhappy with or did anyone treat me poorly. I voiced my concern for the rude lady at the front desk.

In a nutshell, I gave everyone props that deserved it. I wasn't like "Yay. So happy about the knowledge and support for MMJ except that one chic." Wish I could have said something like that in a different way lol BUT I didn't want to have anything negative happen to hospital staff. So, at least there should be smiles all around. :)

Did you ask the REAL nurse and Dr to educate the volunteer? You should include her name in another note to the hospital as some one who needs to be educated on ALL meds and not just ones she personally feels are OK!

I have a surgeon and my MD who were estatic when i told them that i was willing to try MMJ. The narcotic pain meds ive been on thru 37 plus reconstructive surgeries, i stop them asap after surgery but i suffer thru a BUNCH of pain, as of course the pharm crap kills your organs.

I have never been much of a smoker but have lots of friends that do and they suggested it and hooked me up with some to try. I dont dig the head high so I found that ingesting works better for me for pain. The big deal though is that I dont sleep more than an hour at a shot as my jaws, neck and face have had all the surgeries on them and when I lay on them on pillows I wake up in pain. MMJ has allowed me to SLEEP!!! It helps me to numb the pain and sleep thru the pain so i can get much needed rest!!! Its killer and Im am so thankful for MMJ as it totally changed my life for the dramatic better.

So, there's been some kind of sickness crap going around the house here... and of COURSE I got it. Couldn't get in w/my regular doc the entire week & today I couldn't take it anymore & went to the ER... to avoid boring you w/the tests, etc... I have bronchitis & some other crap. To get to the good part of the story...

I get there, tell the lady that checks you in and decides "how sick" you are what my issues are & what meds I'm on, and likes always, I include pot, but I usually choose the words MMJ or Medicinal Cannabis instead. Anyway, she's a volunteer that works there and she wrote down my other 5 meds w/zero issue, but that one, I get the raised eyebrow & she didn't even write it down. I repeated it and she says "Well that's not a medication." I said "Um, I have a prescription, so I'm gonna go with, yes it is." She told me to let the nurse decide, hands me some papers and points me to the waiting room. Mental note: I don't like her.

Anyway, the nurse gets me in a few minutes & he does all my vitals, etc. I repeat all the same info & tell him about the pot & he asks what I use it for & I tell him & he asks me how it's working for me & he actually asked if that was why the dosage of my medication was different than before (I started carrying a list of my meds w/dosages etc instead of trying to remember...). I told him yes & that I was getting to come off of that medication... he told me how he was a huge advocate of MMJ & off and on while I was there he would check on me & was actually pretty inquisitive but in a VERY positive manner. He even brought me a newspaper that had an article about a dispensary... lmao How funny - I volunteer there! He even came back later and gave me a cool little card to carry in my wallet to put my meds on... so I don't have to carry this stupid piece of notebook paper around.

And the doctor, he was awesome. He had to give me meds for several things that were wrong b/c of my other medical issues, but I explained concerns about meds & also that I preferred MMJ over other things and wanted to use that over other methods as much as possible. He thought it was great that I doing something more natural for myself. The only thing he suggested was that I take a break from smoking until my cough settles down and consume edibles. He did send me home with a cough med for days and one for nights as well w/codeine in it to take if I wanted and said that if my cough settled enough that I could smoke if I needed to, but said something more concentrated would probably be better tolerated than smoking pot b/c the plant matter might be too hard on my lungs.

Now really - how great is that? A nurse that took the time to ask questions because he just wanted to know more about how it helped a patient and a doctor that not only supported his patient using it but ALSO was able to give out advice in a positive way?

And, YES, I took the time to write their names down so that I can write a letter to the hospital about how freaking amazing they are.

Was the Dr a early thirties or late forties Dr by chance I have found new DR's especially ones who have just finished or are still presently doing there internship are spot on with there info on medical cannabis and have actually taken the time to do some homework.

I personally believe in the next 5-10 years more and more DR's as they are able to open there private practices are going to move towards medicinal cannabis especially when dealing with chronic pain as opiates are to addictive and are far to easy to build a huge tolerance to.

Actually I have found since using medicinal cannabis a bunch of benfits I never new about such as I dont seem to get sick as often ,I eat better and have actually found that I have developed an aversion to meat as almost everything I eat is filled with cannabis and even put buds in my salads. I think what bothers big pharma most is cannabis has so many uses and only one side effect ,,, it gets ya blazed so it becomes the medicine of choice and if you grow your own its free and nothing scares pharma more then free medicine that actually works. Especially when they can sell a treatment that doesnt really work that great and requires you to take this supplement or that other medication to get the right effect . I just think of all the people who take SSRI's and how they have to take 3-6 differnt types of ssri to address there anxiety, depression, bipolar or whatever but cannabis can actually benefit these types of people as well especially people who Hyper active or suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks. My wife used to take 4 2mg clonazepam each day but with medicinal cannabis she now only has a scrip for 20 pills a month that she only has to take when she has a severe panic attack or if we have to travel a long distance by car (she was in a terrible accident 30 years ago) and the longer she has to be in a car the worse it gets.

Actually, he was probably in his 60's, if I'm being polite.

Couldn't that get then in trouble?

I think that this was quoted when I originally made this post. I didn't end up writing to tell the hospital about them talking directly about weed with me. If you read through the post, it explains what ended up happening. Sorry, I'm just too lazy to type it out again.
