Supporters of legalizing medical marijuana in Arkansas spent their Saturday collecting signatures around the state.

The group Arkansans for Compassionate Care set up 30 spots around the state where folks collected signatures from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The group has until August 13 to collect the tens of thousands of signatures needed to get the issue of legalizing medical marijuana on the November ballot.

Previous coverage from July 14:

There's more time now for the backers of measure to get medical marijuana on the November ballot.

Last week, Arkansans for Compassionate Care turned in more than 65,000 signatures, seemingly above the number required to bring the item to the voters.

But the Secretary of State's office says only approximately 36,000 signatures were valid.

The group, though, still has a shot. They have until August 13th to get more and they think they'll get there.

"I am confident, we've got well over a 100 canvassers out on the streets in the state, we've really stepped things up in these last two or three months. We've probably already collected another 10,000 signatures since we turned the others in," said Ryan Denham, the campaign's Director.

Denham says it isn't easy getting signatures from actual registered voters. They are going to be hitting southern and eastern parts of the state hard for the numbers they need.
