Tarpey Village Medical Pot Dispensaries Reopen

California--A week after Fresno County sheriff's deputies moved on five medical marijuana dispensaries, at least three of the operations on Clovis Avenue in Tarpey Village appeared to be up and running today.

Signs for Garden Ablaze, EarthSource and Cafe 215 Collective, all on Clovis Avenue near Ashlan and Dakota avenues, indicated the dispensaries were open. Deputies raided the dispensaries June 1, when Sheriff Margaret Mims said she believed they are making a profit from marijuana sales, which is illegal under state law.

The shops were not shut down, but deputies seized marijuana in addition to serving search warrants seeking bank and telephone numbers. A worker at Garden Ablaze said today that the operation was open, while a worker at EarthSource insisted said the dispensary was closed, even though there was an open sign in a window. At Cafe 215 Collective, a worker declined to comment.

Attorney Brenda A. Linder, who represents both Garden Ablaze and EarthSource, said the worker who denied the dispensary was open was "just confused," and that it was open "on a limited basis." The EarthSource website said new members were not being accepted.

Linder said the operations have not received a cease and desist order and that compassionate care patients were being treated. She said those patients with severe medical issues such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy were having an "extremely difficult time" without marijuana therapy.

Linder said that because deputies seized records, every patient was required to provide their original recommendations from physicians before they could receive medications.

Efforts to reach Mims and representatives of the Fresno County Counsel's office were unsuccessful.
