A Vincent man has admitted that he has been selling locally grown marijuana for a decade after the Major Crimes Task Force seized a pound of the plant that had been processed and packaged for distribution at his residence on Thursday, officials said Friday.

In addition to the marijuana, investigators found two weapons, $2,000 in cash, scales, and drug paraphernalia after executing a search warrant at the home of Drexil M. Mowery, 51, 1203 Sealey Ridge Road.

“Our agents found about a pound of marijuana that had been measured out in one ounce quantities,” said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.

“I would say he could get about $100 to $150 an ounce for that. It was pretty well processed,” he said. “He told us that it was grown nearby, but did not reveal the location.

“However we had located some patches in that general area, and we think he may have been growing those,” Mincks said.

The sheriff said task force agents believe Mowery’s gross income from the sale of marijuana exceeded $50,000 per year.

Investigators said Mowery is unemployed and receives Social Security Insurance disability benefits.

The evidence seized is being processed, and a report recommending prosecution will be sent to the Washington County prosecutor for possible grand jury action.

Mincks said Mowery was not arrested because he cooperated with police and was not considered a risk to leave the area.

“The task force has been conducting a substantial continuing investigation into marijuana trafficking in Athens, Morgan and Washington counties,” Mincks said. “We want to determine who’s growing, selling and distributing the drug.”

He estimated that the task force has eradicated more than $3 million worth of marijuana across the three-county area throughout 2006.
