ASHLAND, Mass.- Three teens face charges after allegedly growing a patch of marijuana plants in a secluded area of a state park.
The three 15-year-olds, whose names were not released, learned how to grow the 20 marijuana plants from High Times magazine, police said. The suspects potted the plants in high quality soil and kept fertilizer on the site, located near the Ashland Reservoir dam, said police Lt. Scott Rohmer. During the spring, they covered the plants with a tarp to keep them warm, he said.
"It was nicely done," Rohmer told the MetroWest Daily News of Framingham.
The plants were worth about $8,700, but Rohmer said he didn't know whether the teens planned to smoke the marijuana or sell it.
Police learned about the plants from a fisherman who spotted them in the woods. The teens later confessed after being interviewed by police, Rohmer said. He said he didn't know how police identified the teens as suspects.
