A new bill that would allow cannabis oil to be used in Texas is on Gov. Greg Abbott's desk after both the House and Senate approved it.

The bill, which some view as a first step toward legalization of marijuana, would allow epilepsy patients to use the oil from the marijuana plant.

It contains a therapeutic component.

Addison Bauman and her family are paying close attention to the measure.

Addison has epilepsy, a brain malformation she's had since she was a baby controls 90 percent of her brain.

Most days she acts like any other child, but in an instant she experiences severe seizures.

She can laugh uncontrollably or fall face first into the floor. She's had to have two oral surgeries because of that.

"The seizures are our worst nightmare at this point," said Addison's mother Jackie Bauman.

"I'm willing to do anything as a mom to help my daughter," said Bauman.

Her family has a plan to help her but they need assistance.

"Texas Senate Bill 339 allows for decriminalization of cannabis oil for children with seizure disorders," said Addison's aunt Andria Ramon.

Ramon says she's researched medical marijuana and it's benefits.

Right now the family pays nearly $1,500 a month on medicine, that only keep the seizures at bay. Therefore, they're looking towards this option.

"We're just your average people that are searching for something, searching for hope," said Ramon.

The bill has passed both the Texas Senate and House and is now waiting for Abbott's signature.

It's a decision the family is closely watching, so they can change the quality of life for their daughter.

"It could be a ray of sunshine, a ray of hope, an answered pray to so many families out there," said Bauman.

Abbott has until June 21 to sign the bill, but if he does nothing it can still become law.
