The DIY COB Addiction

What's up everyone. I'm new to using cobs and really would like some help on how high from the plants I need them? When I switched cfls out with my cobs, I might have stunted them and taking me some time to find the sweet spot for them. Someone told me 18" and I have it at only 25watts total.

I am using 4 CLU048 1212 80cri with 185h 1400 driver.
So I have them at about 18 to 20" away and total of 25 watts. Turned it down alot. How far away would I need them to be able to turn the light up to about 50 to 60watts?

I'm really late to the party on this one.
I run 9 x CLU048 1212 in a 3x3 at 1400mA. I've had them as low as 12" with no problems. I like to keep them at around 18" to increase light spread though
 
hello, can someone help me with driver i can use to run 6 vero 22 at 2100 mA and 35.6vf ?
and i have one more ting to ask, if the recomended mA is 1400 and 34,8vf, is is bad for the COB to run 2100 mA and 35.6vf ?

The data sheet appears to indicate that the absolute max current you can run is 2800mA, so you can probably run at 2100, but it will be more inefficient. You are better off running more chips at lower current to lose less of your power to heat.
 
i ben researching a bit now but dont find so mush info about BXRC-30G10K0-B-73-SE so i think i will try it. but thought to hear first if someone knows the spectrum on it?

Can you please clarify how you got these numbers?
20 oz is 567g. 567g/186W is 3.05 g/W! At 1.9 g/W you would need 300W. 30 oz would need at least 448W.
186W x 12 hours x 90 days = 200 kWh. @ $0.25/kWh is $50.

I just killed my brand new A/C, and still have to buy a light. Thought I'd just suck it up and make a fixture like yours. Maybe I missed this, why did you use two 240W drivers, instead of a single 480W driver? It seems like just more wiring, and a hair less efficient.
 
Question about your choice of drivers. Obviously the HLG240 can run four Vero D. However, the driver is rated at 146V max, and the Vero D need 37.6V @ 1.75A (4 x 37.6V = 150.4V). Rapidled warned me not to use this driver when I bought the COB. Rapid's kit is five Vero D on an HLG320 (187V max). What am I missing?

Run a 240-1400b that will give you 50 watts a chip. The chips run at 36v (36 x 4 =144). Also if u run at 1400 milliamps instead of 1750 that will keep you under 250 watts.

The 240h-c has "maximum" forward voltage of 146V. Power is constant, regardless of current rating. CREE 3590 and Citizen 1212 are 36V Vf. Rapidled says the Vero needs 37.6V; Bridgelux says 38.0V. This means the driver *shouldn't* be able to light four Vero D. I'm wondering what gives? Is the driver going to die earlier? Does it actually put out 150+ V? Or, like you say, the Vero D actually only need 36.0V?

The A driver also puts out more current than the B drivers. I'm not sure I'd use the dimming function anyway. The A should give over 550W total draw.
 
Hello experienced growers!!!!

I'm getting ready to build my first rig for my first Grow. Heres what I'm thinking. Keep in mind I'm going for quality not quantity. I will be running Doc's gear and of coarse rotating through flower.
I'm going to grab all my lights from timber, I'm planning on running a 320 Watt Quantum Board Grow Light Kit down the center and a 300 Watt Cree CXB3590 (4) COB Grow Light Kit on each side. could use some help with color. I'm thinking 3000k or 4000k on the QB. and for each 4 cob set up 1)3500k 2)3000k 3)3500k 4) 3000k. That's for flowering a 5x5(over powered but I figure I can turn them down as the girls need.

I know there is no magic light, I'm just looking for some help from experience.

For veg, I'm thinking a 240 watt 4000k QB
or cob set up with a mix of 5000k and 6500k.
veg tent will be a 3x3 with half set up for seedlings.

it all depends on the milliamps your going to apply to the cob. The lower the milliamps the more efficient the cob runs. A 1400b cc driver has a max voltage of 182v allowing for 4 cobs to operate. Lower the milliamps the more voltage you have to soak up with added cobs.
 
I'm on the 'fake it till ya make it' path and am a recent HID to LED convert. I swapped out my two 600w HIDs for two 6COB Vero29D builds that I now have in bloom and they're doing fantastic. I now wish to swap out my 4 bulb T5 fixture in Veg as it also produces too much heat and the bulbs are near the end of their life, but rather than spend $200 on new T5 bulbs, I'd rather sink my $$ into an LED fixture for Veg. Sadly, almost all of my searches for "Veg LEDs/COBs" returns info for bloom lighting.

Can someone recommend a good kit or panel for a 2'x4' space? I actually need less light, as I only usually have 2 plants growing at a time (not counting clones), but clones I don't want to receive direct lighting anyways. I also am aiming for something in the 100 watt range. Is it as simple as a heatsink with a 5000k-6500k COB chip and a small driver, or are there other setups that are geared for maximum veg growth?

Look into progrowtech they make really nice and solid lighting fixtures. Also puts out a good amount of ppfd. Alittle pricy but if you want light that will last you a life time then go with them.
