The Long Haul Grow Journal

Greetings and salutations,

My grow has been one crazy adventure. I am at about 48 days right now and things are going well. Enjoy.

My setup has changed throughout the grow cycle. I started with a 400 HPS during veg using F1 clones from a buddy of mine. +Reps for him. At first I just watered them and didn't pay much attention to the climate or even care much about them, it was a project I kind of just threw together. Not hoping for much my poor plants sat in a 90+ degree tent with no air flow :XX They got really crispy and looked dead but I backed the light off and added a fan to them. I vegged for about 3 months. No joke. I had to cut off 18 inches of each plant before I flowered because they were almost at the max the tent could hold. When I flowered I added the CFL configuration you can see in some images. 2 fixtures 6 bulbs = 600w (so they say I'm not so sure about the wattage but the plants on the cfl side of the tent are looking much better than the MH side.) I have been battling mites pretty much the whole time as well. I used a Power wash product that is apparently ionized and that did do some good, also released about 1200 lady bugs over the course of a month as well. Still have mites.

Water- Veg water was distilled from the store. I am now using tap water with some DE-cholorin drops for aquariums. I let the water sit 3 days before using it (I never Ph'd my water so I have no clue whats going on there. "1st Mistake")
Soil- Miracle Grow Garden bag (Total crap and probably where all the bugs came from "2nd mistake")
Veg Nuits- Blood Meal, Fox Farm once a week (cant remember which one, veg I think)
Flower Nuits- Age Old Bloom, Mother Of All Blooms ( I only fed once a week "3rd mistake?" )

My ailments -
Bugs (Fungus Fly and Spider Mites) Solution - Alcohol and water solution 1/4 for fly
Heat Exhaustion
Veged too long
I used some string to tie the big segments away from the MH so there are tiny little hairs of it on the buds now, I just read about bud washing and I am definitely doing it after viewing the buds under the loupe, which is a 40x by the way!

All in all I think things are going good now. I am from what I can remember at day 48 of flowering and have some pretty good shots for yall. Hope this was helpful to some people and a good read at least.

My questions are, how much longer if you care to chime in! and how much do you think is there now? :D

Cheers!

Hey! im glad to see that your grow is turning out to be just fine, specially after all that negligence...:laughtwo: For what i can see in your pics, your grow is going to be ready very soon man. keep it up! :thumb:

I like how your journal consists in a lot of illustrations ;) that is how i like to read, lol.

Hey Thanks for the reply! I checked out your grow too looks sweet. I just decided that I am going to give my plants another 20 days at least so I am back on the nuits again. I am going to push them these next few days and think I will add some molasses as well. Checked out another post saying it is ok to do this uptil flush time so I'm thinking 10 hard days of nuits then 10-12 days of flush. My girls are bright and happy so I will continue till I start seeing some amber in those lil trichs.

Hope you are having a great grow day!

Cheers,

Thanks man, I got the S6 edge and damn, it is FREAKING awesome. Trying to use the loupe with it is a bit difficult but I got a few good ones in there. The F1 I mentioned is the clone generation. I got the clones from a mother grown from seed so they are considered F1 or First Gen clones. Keeping with most of the genetics of the mother. If you clone from a F1 clone they are F2 and so on, until you have very little left of the original mother genetics. I actually don't know the name of this strain but it is most def a sativa :D Shes got some serious density going right now, I am just hoping the colas continue to form along the branches, I just sniped the tops of the large colas (to make them more uniform I read on another thread...)

Just decided to start back on the nuits (After 10 days no nuits on a once a week feeding schedule) so hope shes got at least another 20 days in her before harvest :D! I will keep this thread updated no doubt.

Cheers,

For what i've read F1 are indeed the first generation from seed, but if you clone from a clone it will still be an F1 generation... don't take this for granted, im just starting to learn more about breeding and supposedly when you cross a male and a female from the F1 gen you'll get an F2, and when you cross male and female from F2 you'll get F3 and so on, that way the genetics will stabilize little by little.
Like i said, im starting to learn more about this, and soon ill start a breeding program so i can understand better all this. But i never heard that the genetics of a clone mom will get lost over time cloning it.

Yea that makes sense absolutely. I more than likely wasn't told the full explination about this so I agree that the Gen change must be done during mating/pollination.

My main concern for this (and this is documented) is the growth abnormalities that come from cloning the same clones over and over and over. A friend of mine has been growing from the same clones for over 10 cycles and all his leaves are deformed and the plant has very little strength in it. It very well could be his methods but he does grow decent weed from time to time. I just don't like the way it looks on the way there lol! :D Either way if you have the time, from seed is always the best way to go, that way you know just what she likes hehehe.

Yeah, I've read something about that, there is a lot of controversy in this subject... I guess that its probably true that somehow the clones start losing their "power" but maybe it depends a lot on the strain, and thats why people have been growing clones from clones for decades and they asure that they are as good as the first batch of clones...

Could be the reason why real KUSH like we used to get in Cali in the 90s just can't be found. I don't care what anyone says, current "KUSH" is not the same as it was. :x

Hey, great journal. To chime in on the clones piece....its my impression that you can continue a strain for ever without loss by ensuring your taking good cuttings every time. Alot of people just want another plant, dont want to take a branch that might affect their yield, and take a stringy under developed little guy. U may have the same genetics as the mom, but u have a sample that has its own markers based on the location u took it from. Example, u cannever grow an apical cola from a side branch clone. So think of it in a tangable example, your taking your moms bum leg, and hoping jackie joyner will grow from it.

Hope all is well in your world.

Is this grow still alive?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

:Namaste:
