The mysteries of pruning; revealed

o.k. i've finally got my shit together for this. i had to find a place to do this as my house is a place of business and for obvious reasons it is not a good place to grow herbs. so, just to keep things as cheap and simple as possible, i have started 16 cuttings. 8 hempstar(shorty indica) and 8 ak-47(shorty sativaXindica). they are in 2gal pots(extruded plastic) and the medium is No#4 sunshine mix (peat, perlite, sand.) which is available everywhere. i am using a 1000 watt halide horizontally mounted with a shade. for flowering i'll add a 600 watt sodium. i have put a drip feed watering system in place with 4gph emitters. i am using a plastic fifty gallon drum for a rez. the system is driven by a good quality pump. i'm using general hydro maxigro and maxibloom powders as my main nutrient source as they are cheap, clean, and readily available. there are plenty of good off the shelf organic ferts that will also work . but for my purposes the gh is at hand. i am adding "liquid gold" for fulvic and "floralicious" for humic acids. every rez also gets a dose of potassium silicate.i will use liquid and powdered "koolbloom" as bud enhancers.pictures of the whole thing from clone to day six will follow as soon as i find a 'puter with a FACTORY installed usb as for some reason the fuji camera software dosn't accept the ones in my frankenputer.

a little tip for harvesting. wear surgical gloves (latex). they collect resin well. when they get too sticky toss them in the freezer. after they freeze the finger hash peels right off with no nasty skin for you to smoke. out here we call it "glove". all the kick of ice hash with twice the flavour.

i loosely follow a feeding program of feed feed flush/week but i tend to be more aware of the plants themselves. if you pay close attention to them , they will tell you what they need. colour is important. if the leaves are light green , i feed. if they seem darker, i flush. if they have a condition of some kind , i investigate and adjust my rez accordingly. it takes a while of dealing with a plant to figure out its natural rythms. once you do this, the average becomes the excelent.

Re: the mysteries of pruning; revieled.

I agree- Knowing your plants by look and feel is as important as knowing what to feed it when :)

On numerous occasions I go to feed or water, and one of the plants says no, I don't need anything yet, so i skip it. Or one in the bunch is eating like a hog, I feed it more than the others. The funny thing is, when you learn the signs, it's not hard to read them. Well, somtimes it is, you get these bitch ass sativas that like to play games..

lol

Good tip on the glove freezing Porno! So obvious all this time, yet, so oblivious.

Re: the mysteries of pruning; revieled.

o.k. i've done the first prune and started budding. i have tonnes of picks of everything thus far . i ended up having to buy a card reader . tonight i'll install it then it's picks galore of the whole thing to date. it's my busy season with the greenhouse biz and we are in full swing enoculation mode with our shitake and oyster mushroom production. incase you folks are unaware of the potential of medicinal mushrooms here you go: shitake mushrooms are known to be anti-bacterial, anti-candida, anti-tumor, anti-viral, cholesteral reducer, immune system booster, kidney tonic, liver tonic, blood pressure regulator, blood sugar regulator, and my favorite... sexual potentiator.

Re: the mysteries of pruning; revieled.

cordyceps, reishi, and shitake are the best . all are extremely active medicinally and japanese communities that grow and eat these mushrooms have very low cancer rates .

Can't wait to see the pics, sounds like this is gonna be a great grow to watch. Also, thanks for the latex love info... I'll try that with my harvest which should be just around May 1st.
