The Personal Regimen: Our Community Speaks

Our go to strain for pain relief is called Hiydrow.
Its 16% CBD and 8% THC with a nice terpene profile.
My wife has had Fibromyalgia for over 20+ years, she took opioids for 18 years and they only dulled the pain never took it away.
2.5 years ago she started consuming cannabis, first I made oil but after awhile decided thats just a waste of time and good weed when you can just decarb it and crumble it on a peanut butter cracker and get the same or better results.
So she takes what we call a FireCracker twice a day with about 1/4 gr of decarbed cannabis and then several tokes of high CBD bud when needed and she is totally pain free about 95% of the time now.

I use it to lower my blood pressure, without it my BP would be around 140/90, I take 2 to 3 hits wait 10 mins and boom bp down to 110/70.
Also relieves my minor arthritis pain.

I also used CBD oil mixed with olive oil to get rid of a spot on my hand that worried me, started to look a bit cancerous, it just drew right out and flaked right off in about 2 weeks.

I haven't made any since switching to coconut oil. I usually use about an ounce of finely chopped stems to 2 sticks of butter. I make it with the old stovetop method...

•In a saucepan I add water, stems, butter. Bring to a boil, then down to a nice mellow simmer. I stir often, making sure I dont brown the butter to the sides. I also add water as the level drops.

• That goes on for an hour and a half or so. Then strain the fluid into a stainless steel mixing bowl, toss in the fridge overnight.

• In the morning peel the layer of butter off of the water, blot the water off of the bottom of the slab, store in the fridge...

I dont have any dosing guidelines, maybe 2 tsp??? No real high, just relaxing.

Works better for my wife than myself, but my insomnia is a different kind of monster (Impossible to fall asleep before my body gives out, no REM, no dreams, sleeping longer than 4 hours straight through is a real accomplishment)
Wondering what your sleep disorder diagnosis is, sounds exactly like me. No REM confirmed with sleep study. I could finally prove to the drs i really dont dream, not just that i dont remember my dreams.

I’d like to initiate a community conversation on personal regimens. I’ve been studying the endocannabinoid system and how cannabis therapeutics can enhance a life for a few years now and it occurs to me that the clinical data coming out about cannabis dosing may not be reflective of real-world use in our community.

I keep wondering how honest people are about reporting their true level of consumption to their doctors.

The clinical data I’ve noticed doesn’t come anywhere near my own usage, and I suspect many of you could say the same. As an example, Mara Gordon, one of the respected voices on cannabis dosing, has said that an average patient in her dispensary takes around 50 mg of total cannabinoids a day.

I take more than 50 mg of THC for breakfast. How about you? That’s what I thought.

This suggests that we’ve come up with creative ways to enjoy our euphoria as we treat the many physical concerns that sent us down the path of cannabis cultivation. For one thing, we have access to more cannabis than the a

The Questions

Be as detailed as you can, as wordy as you feel the need. If you use cannabis for recreation only then share that. The questions apply to everyone.

* Why do you personally use cannabis?

* How long have you been using cannabis?

* List any medications you’ve reduced or discontinued with cannabis use.

* If you use cannabis to treat chronic pain, how would you rate the level of relief you’re getting?

* What administration methods have you tried?

* What administration method/s work best for you?

* What chemovar/s work for you? What makes them favorites?

* What chemovars don’t work for you? What experience caused you to discard them as an option?

* Describe in detail your personal regimen. Walk me through a typical day of cannabis use. I’m hoping for the fine details, when you take your first dose, how much you dose, what you eat before or after a dose, how cannabis use augments fitness and movement, dose cannabinoid values and ratios if you know them.....all of it.

Also, if you don’t mind this last question:

Do you work a full time job outside the home? and if so How do you commute to work?

You can’t be too detailed in your answers.

There’s no timeline on this little project. It’s more a centralized data bank in the end than anything else, and eventually what we learn here will find its way to more specialized threads. Let’s have fun with it. :Namaste:
Dont you guys have deep sleep parasomnia like me? I’m gonna Google the strain for Sure. Havent found a cbd dominant mix before.

Thnx for sharing
I dont have a diagnosis is why i was asking. Small town no specialists.

Forgot to answer any questions.

* Why do you personally use cannabis?

90% medicinal 10% recreational
It's the one and the only drug in existence that is actually good for you, your body needs it just like it needs calcium, iron and protein.

* How long have you been using cannabis?

About 47 years, same with my wife.

* List any medications you’ve reduced or discontinued with cannabis use.

I stopped taking blood pressure medication, my wife stopped taking all opioids, we dont take any other medication.

* If you use cannabis to treat chronic pain, how would you rate the level of relief you’re getting?

My wife does (Fibromyalgia) and the cannabis works FAR better than the opioids ever did, with opioids the pain never once went away. The pain would go from about an 8 or 9 down to a 4 to 5, with cannabis it regularly goes to 0 to 1.
I just have minor pain, little arthritis and the usual old age crap and I stay pain free.

* What administration methods have you tried?

Smoking in about every way, vaporizing, eating the oil, eating just the decarbed bud, fresh leaves in smoothies, topically just rubbing on the cannabis oil mixed with olive oil.
If either of us get cancer will try suppositories to get large doses.

* What administration method/s work best for you?

Eating small measured doses of just decarbed bud on a cracker with fresh made peanut butter, vaporizing and we still cant give up smoking a nice joint, just a few tokes when needed.

* What chemovar/s work for you? What makes them favorites?

A 2:1 CBD dominate strain called Hiydrow is our current favorite for medicinal and I also prefer it for recreational as I do not particularly enjoy much THC, I am in that majority of people that get the anxiety, paranoid, not enjoyable feeling from high THC, my wife however prefers high THC for recreational and high CBD for medicinal.
The Hiydrow reminds me of just really good weed from the late 70s, that really nice high we used to get 30+ years ago before they bred CBD out of it.

* What chemovars don’t work for you? What experience caused you to discard them as an option?

They all seem to work to a degree but 2:1 CBD/THC is best medicinally and the Hiydrow is best we have found so far.
I personally cant stand high THC sativas they aren't an option for me.

* Describe in detail your personal regimen. Walk me through a typical day of cannabis use.

For me I occasionally take less than 1/4gr of decarbed bud on a firecracker once a day rarely twice unless I am in pain, my wife always takes between 1/4gr to 1/2gr on a cracker twice a day.
I smoke or vape a few tokes of high CBD a few times a day.
My wife smokes 5x what I do plus smokes whatever high THC strain we have curing, currently its DJ Shorts Blueberry.

Do you work a full time job outside the home? and if so How do you commute to work?

We are both retired for many years.

I'm the last to tell someone what to do, still i feel the urge to point out the problems and risks of sleeping problems. Sleeping problems are not to be taken lightly imo. Maybe you can find a doctor one or two towns away? Just cause it might actually help you to know what is going on:Namaste:

Thats not realistic for me, and my experience with most drs around here has led me to take charge or my own health. They wouldnt listen, thought i was crazy, if the drug they gave me didnt work there was something wrong with me. I've been through so many tests into so many doctors that said things like that must be incredibly painful you should probably be in the hospital you look terrible, while at the same time they want it all to be someone else's problem and don't want to take responsibility for actually putting me in the hospital or doing anything about it. so I'm feeling a little bitter about doctors these days I know there are good ones out there I just don't know them personally. thanks for your concern I know that sleep is important

I absolutely hear you and i am currently in a position like that for ....not sure how many times. A few years ago there was a doctor who did a test and that gave me alot of insight. Also it prove to myself those doc's are just looking for what was in the books they study.

Reading your response i'm kinda sad this happens to so many people all around the world. Maybe they all should get a course on listening and believing what a patient is telling?

If you like to chat about the sleep problems(who knows what we can learn) you know where to find me:high-five:

What I totally forgot to mention in the questions is that hasj really makes me higher mentally most of the Times. Making it from my own girls is something i still want to try one day:cool:

It's a matter of concentrations. Hash is simply concentrated trichomes,,so of course you'll,have a greater effect.

There are many threads dedicated to making hash. You won't have any trouble, finding help and inspiration.

It's kinda funny. Up to two years ago i tought hasj was just pressed leafs(shame on me!) I do understand that if you drink whisky like beer, you might get drunk a little faster hehe;)

If i buy like 4-5 grams of hasj it lasts 2-3 weeks. Just one or two a day is really enough to get me a little vloudly when desired.

This suggests that we’ve come up with creative ways to enjoy our euphoria as we treat the many physical concerns that sent us down the path of cannabis cultivation. For one thing, we have access to more cannabis than the average consumer, or at least that’s the goal of our collective obsession. For another, we aren’t afraid of euphoria.

I’d like to take a look at those adaptations you’ve made and see what we have in common. I’d also like to see if we can find ways to help each other get better results. Maybe by putting our heads together we can tweak the process here and there and come away richer for the experience and healthier to boot.

I have some questions to get you started. You share your answers and I’ll share mine. Together we’ll advance the knowledge on the many ways cannabis can bring relief, from our unique perspective.

The Questions

Be as detailed as you can, as wordy as you feel the need. If you use cannabis for recreation only then share that. The questions apply to everyone.

* Why do you personally use cannabis?
For relaxation, pain relief, muscle cramping, and appetite.

* How long have you been using cannabis?
About 2 years.

* List any medications you’ve reduced or discontinued with cannabis use.
Got off all pharmaceuticals, too many to list. I occasionally take Aleve, but that's it.

* If you use cannabis to treat chronic pain, how would you rate the level of relief you’re getting?
Moderate to very good relief.

* What administration methods have you tried?
Oral, smoking, topical, nasal, and anything else I could think of that might actually work.

* What administration method/s work best for you?
Number one for me is topical, followed by oral, followed by smoking (more for relaxation)
* What chemovar/s work for you? What makes them favorites?
Still working on this one, I don't do well with too much CBD, and too much Sativa can make me a bit paranoid, so mostly hybrids I guess. I live in a legal area so I'm spoiled for choices really.

* What chemovars don’t work for you? What experience caused you to discard them as an option?
I DO NOT like the chems, cheeses or super funky smelling ones as a rule.

I get up and smoke a little, and make a coffee or tea with lots of fat and canna oil.
Before dressing I slather myself with canna salve.
Jump on the rebounder for 5 minutes and do some yoga or gentle dance moves.
I redose with tea with canna oil as needed through out the day, usually 2-3 more times.
Use additional salve as spot treatment as needed throughout day.
The number of times I smoke (usually in a bong) are dictated by how much down time I have as these are really for relaxation or anxiety. I don't usually smoke until I am super high, just enough to slow down the squirrel cage.
At night I may add an edible to help me sleep. Like one of my hard candies.
My routine is very dependent on how I am feeling and what I am trying to accomplish for the day.

Also, if you don’t mind this last question:

Do you work a full time job outside the home? and if so How do you commute to work?
I work in the industry so no worries and I live close enough to walk if needed.

You can’t be too detailed in your answers.

Sue, I’m in.

The Questions

Be as detailed as you can, as wordy as you feel the need. If you use cannabis for recreation only then share that. The questions apply to everyone.

* Why do you personally use cannabis?
primarily for pain from creaky old joints and insomnia. Also for pleasure on occasion :)

* How long have you been using cannabis?
Smoked a lot from 1968 - 1974. Would have kept going but the bride didn’t partake and didn’t like me doing so. Then kids and a career in k-12 education impacted usage also. I did sneek a doobie or two occasionally at a concert with a buddy.:ganjamon: Michigan went medical in'08. In ‘12 I approached my Doc about using. She totally surprised me and said "sure"! Turns out, other Docs in the practice were recommended MJ. I was her first. Obtained my patient lic. In '13 and, Caretaker lic. In '14, and now grow for 4 other patients.
* List any medications you’ve reduced or discontinued with cannabis use.
Cannabis has helped me cut WAY back on OTC NAISDs. Also, with a bad back, mucho arthritis and the occasional surgery, I’ve been able to stay away from the hard stuff that doctors continually throw at you. (Sigh.)
* If you use cannabis to treat chronic pain, how would you rate the level of relief you’re getting?
For the most part I can keep it under control with just cannabis. An occasional Tylenol or Aleve, along with cannabis does the trick.
* What administration methods have you tried?
Smoking, vaping (preferred), CCO, infused oils, gels caps of decarbed or AVB bud.
* What administration method/s work best for you?
Vaping and infused oil caps.
* What chemovar/s work for you? What makes them favorites?
There’s to many to name!
* What chemovars don’t work for you? What experience caused you to discard them as an option?
Medium to high CBD chemovars don’t do much for me. They make me thick headed/somewhat drowsy during the day. If I use them at night they tend to keep me awake or contribute to a restless sleep.
* Describe in detail your personal regimen.
I start out in the morning with an infused oil cap in the 400 mg range depending on the strain. THC level is around 5-10% and CBD around 1-2%. I take another at noon, and if it’s a "bad" day another late afternoon. After dinner I switch to my nighttime infused oil caps. Again, depending on the strain I take a 400-500mg cap with 10-15% THC and little to no CBD. I take the same dosage about an hour before bed. Once in bed I’ll vape a tray (Magic-Flight) or two of Bluebery, GreenOmatic, Paki Kush, Big Bang or other high THC Indica. I repeat this routine every day. Occasionally, I’ll vape during the day/evening if I need quick pain relief or I want to crank up the music/watch a movie, etc. I also make pain oils/creams and use that as needed. I’m exploring more Sativa Dom. strains and want to incorporate them into my 'day' meds.

Do you work a full time job outside the home? and if so How do you commute to work?
I’m retired. Unless I’ve over done it, I drive whenever/wherever. I am cautious and will often ask my wife to drive especially at night.

@medmanmike, from the distance it sounds like the CBD chemovars you tried were of an indica variety. There are some very special sativa CBDs out there now, and some really interesting balanced ratios as well. If you can tolerate the sativa terpene profiles I'd keep an eye out for them. Just this past week I had my first taste of Lemon Haze CBD that's supposed to be balanced, and it was quite uplifting and pleasant, without being too euphoric. Something like that might be a good choice.

I'm retired too, and my retirement plan for many years was to stay as high as was functionally possible. I'm livin' the dream. :slide:

Yup, mostly Indica Dom.. Don’t know why I haven’t done more with Sativass as I’m very intrigued with Landraces, and who can’t forget the great Sativas we had back in the 60/70s!

I do have some Sativas in the pipeline and will look further for those with significant levels of CBD. Other than Lemon Haze CBD, what else would you recommend?

I’ve just begun looking into them myself Mike, and haven’t delved too deeply. I stumbled upon my choices the same way I do everything else. I’m sure there’s much more available this year than there was last. The CBD Joy thread may need some updating soon. :battingeyelashes:

I've been eyeing up Parvati, It is a sativa from a charas producing region in Nepal. According to TRSC it is believed to be higher in CBD. Actually may end up being my first seed bank purchase ever. Seems like I never had many indicas on hand, but now my collection is rife with purple indica dominant hybrids. Lol.

CBD is the next step in keeping my household properly medicated long term.
