The Trump Administration And Legalized Marijuana

Incoming Attorney General, Senator Jeff Sessions (R:AL) has taken a firm and consistent stand against legalization of Marijuana.

If confirmed by the US Senate, and he will be, AG Sessions is widely thought to be likely to abandon the Obama Administration's "look the other way" policy on state laws on Marijuana.

The Big Q: What will that mean?

The Big A: It might mean is a flood of lawsuits that would cost the Justice Department millions of dollars. But, the optics are poor.

For President Trump, it's a political calculation.

How does he receive more favorable press coverage?

He cannot lose because, if AG Sessions leaves enforcement as it has been for the past several years, Donald Trump can take credit. Remember, Donald Trump, since Y 1990 is on the record that marijuana should be legal in the US.

If he allows AG Sessions to return to the good/bad old days, and it results in massive bad press, DonaldTrump can step in and say it was all a misunderstanding and there will not be any change.

And them AG Sessions would be forced to take the same line as Newt Gingrich did last week regarding his comment that Draining the Swamp was no longer a priority.

Donald Trump set Mr. Gingrich straight and Mr.Gingrich publicly ate his words the next day.

That of AG Sessions could resign, that is highly unlikely. He has bigger goals and the Justice Department is the best place go after them.

The Arizona Department of Health Services lottery in October produced some big winners in the competition to make money in the Medical Marijuana industry.

The lottery winners were granted licenses to open a Medical Marijuana dispensary in a state where patients with prescriptions to treat conditions such as glaucoma and cancer spent $215-M last year on Marijuana products.

Arizona's public health officials awarded most licenses based on rules designed to place new dispensaries within range of the greatest number of Medical Marijuana patients. But when it was not clear which applicant was in the most patient-dense area, they used a lottery to select the winners sidestepping conflict.

States have struggled with how to give out potentially lucrative Medical Marijuana licenses trying to balance public health concerns against an entrepreneurial spirit and avoid a bevy of lawsuits.

Many want to ensure the businesses are well run and are supplying quality products.

But even in states like Arizona where dispensaries are required to be non-profits, competition for licenses can lead to a Gold Rush mentality and lawsuits as entrepreneurs see Medical Marijuana industry with $4.2-M in sales in Y 2014.

So, I am going on the record and saying that the Trump Administration will be at least friendly to the Medical Marijuana industry in the US, and he could go so far as to legalize it nationwide during his term in the Oval Office.

Or, Trump could decide to use a return to the bad old days as a way to punish California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Massachusetts and Maine, the recreational legal states that Hillary won. Time will tell.

Or Trump can close the gap in the nations deficit and push for nationwide/or states leagalization for the people by the people and create a multibillion dollar industry that can be regulated and taxed and create thousands of jobs and be the greatest/forwardthinking president weve seen since??? Only dreamin

each to their own and mine to smoke

The Man is mad. Imagine a potential US President not being allowed use his own Twitter account in the days preceding the election, due to his inability to control his temper. He lets his emotions rule him. I read he said he was getting Pro-Life Supreme Court Justices, and hopes to overturn or whatever the Roe V. Wade judgement. I agree with Ditchweed above that Trump will do whatever is best for him.
He seems to have a lot of support on the fringe-right, who would generally view medical cannabis/ any cannabis as "BAD'.
It's going to be an interesting, even scary few years. I truly hope all the progress that has been made in the USA is not lost.

In all honesty, I think all this talk of Trump and sessions is more leftist propaganda to create spite of our presidential elect.

Trump is a businessman and knows capitalism, so why would he go against one of the fastest growing industries we have ever seen since alcohol prohibition. Including millions and potentially billions of dollars in tax revenue.

Trump is for creating jobs... and the MJ industry employs tens of thousands of Americans.

Trump is for Veterans, so why would he take away the abilities for vets in medical states to utilize cannabis and force them to go back to Kamikaze Cocktails from the VA?

Trump is for small government and states rights, so why all of a sudden would he chose big government and not to listen to the people.

His whole movement has been to rid the cronies, the control freaks, the scandolous and represent the people, not big government...why would this change?

I just don't see it happening, and believe this is just another attempt for the left to show discontent their candidate lost.

Sorry ... Trump's a diagnosed narcissist who is in way over his head to the detriment of the American nation. Time to pull the plug GOP!

Prepare for retrograde motion. When the GOP rules, we go backward! Time to dust off your #MedMj initiatives of yesteryear and forget #RecMj for now.

Let's not forget ALL politicians do what is best for them at the time to stay in power, or to get elected. Remember, even Prez O'bama went rogue and beat up all kinds of California #MedMj dispensaries with Forfeiture threats prior to the Nov #2012 election. After the election, the Cole memos were released. No politician wants to look soft on pot or terrorism going into an election.

Prepare for retrograde motion, people. We will be lucky to eliminate the (25) mile rule for existing #MedMj patients in Az come Nov #2018.
