More than three tons of cannabis were seized and seven drug traffickers were arrested in southern Albania in the last 24 hours.
At least 3,360 kilograms of cannabis were found hidden in tank trucks on Friday night near the Albanian-Greek border.
The police seized 300 kilograms of cannabis in the town of Gjirokastra, 250 kilometers from Tirana. The drugs were hidden inside tires of two cars.
Another 50 kilograms of cannabis were seized in Gjirokastra on Saturday. The drugs were intended for sale in Tirana.
Albania is the most important transit country in the Balkans when it comes to drug trafficking. It is also the main marijuana supplier in Europe as of late.
The Albanian police have seized more than eight tons of cannabis which was intended for Greek and Italian markets since January.
