Skybound's Journal

This is the lanky ass PC that I'll be phasing out due to the evident shit show in bloom that @Tead spoke of. Literally every branch requires it's own personal yoyo, but I ran out, so the walls have to hold them up somewhat. This experience actually gave me the idea to look for netting to fasten to the walls at about the height of my light, then when future plants get to the PITA stage, I can draw all 4 nets into the center under the canopy and prevent any midnight self pruning. Of course I'll probably have to snip it all out at harvest time, still, I think it's a fairly decent idea.

I have to tolerate another lanky PC, but after that, I won't do any more and just focus on the thick branch pheno that did so well last round. She's eating fast though. 6 days and she lowered the TDS by 95. Pretty impressive IMO.

Dude I can't follow all the numbers,,, but IF I know in advance,, which is a plus about clones,,, that she's going to need alot of help,, I like to take a 5'? stake dead center when I start to flower,,, after a week,, I use this twist tie wire to tie the main branches to it,,,, kind of spider off the center with however main or larger branches you got... Alot easier to get them main branches tied early,,,, when there is less leaf or branch to get in the way???? You can save most of them yo yo's for every fat ass bud??????

Kind of hard to explain or show without hands on??????????

Sure that don't help come to the end of the flower when buds grow fat,,, but it will help alot........ Some times,, to much buddage it's a problem.. Takes acouple grows to know if you even like the herb???????? Ain't no good it every bud breaks the stem..... BUT IF IT'S TOP SHELF,,,, it's worth it....

Oh BTW Sky..... Does America need to say I'm sorry to Trump??????? Well kind of in my thoughts... Never should have gone this far.... But is funny to see all the people left, that aren't happy he was not indicated? WFT,,, they actually wanted him found guilty of helping a foreign power to be allowed to hack our shit??

Going to be interesting to see what direction fallout goes????

Thanks woody. I try to achieve that end result with duct tape strips everywhere carrying the weight back to the center stalk, but all them little skinny side branches would make that too much effort, and the same would be true tying everything in to a stake. If ya figure a main stalk could have 10-12 side branches, and each side branch can grow 8-10 sides of it's own, it all adds up quick, and with less than a 4x4 foot print, i can only maneuver in there by climbing under the canopy and contorting around on these 43 year old blue collar ankles, knees and hips I am quickly reminded I either need to get younger quick, or larger rooms, neither of which is possible. As an indoor grower, for me a wet dream would be to have a back yard grow like B&J's poolside paradise and have the ability to comfortably walk all the way around all my plants. This is another reason I aim to get out of growing. I don't even smoke anymore. I traded a half of PC to a guy that has a selection and told him to give me the weakest shit he can get and still have yet to toke my own PC, lol.

Another thing, IDK if it's all rockwool, but that shit being so airy and all makes a potted rootball very easy to move inside the pot, and depending how the weight grows out, the whole plant can windshield wiper itself to any side or corner. That's actually kind of funny to see because I can swing it right back to the center, but as soon as I let go, it wipers right back to the heavy side. I presume soil pots can anchor all the weight better, but rockwool is basically a ball socket.

They do, but seeing as how a good lot of them are still yet to acknowledge that he was in fact elected from 2016, I don't expect too much logical thinking or action from the left these days. It's like collective cognitive dissonance. They try to manipulate you emotionally, and upon failing to do that, they run out of ideas, lol.

It's so hard not to gloat (AGAIN) considering them fuckers will condescend to a [deplorable] every chance they get about some "if true" shit, but our nation is going through some immense growing pains and the fucking pieces of shit hiding across the pond that are trying to back door us into socialism are pushing that shit so hard at us both in our face as well as subliminally, we need to stick together because once the legal woes start to swing back to the left, there are going to be a lot of already emotional leftists forced to deal with a whole lot more bad news. To be clear, when I say legal woes, I don't want to undersell that treason charges will be pursued and death penalties will be issued. It's going to go all the way to the top, and who will be lucky enough to walk away with a life sentence is beyond me to know, but I do know things are geared to get biblical in a Nuremberg kind of way. It's a rewarding feeling to know that our country's trajectory will be corrected, but it's also unnerving to think that can split us right down the middle.

I do understand.... Is alot of impute from overseas in the youngsters........ Seeing I live in Portland I tend to follow the shit's that's been hitting the fan... But I see alot of 'kids'''' or tomorrows adults''''' that are SO mislead by media,,,, I don't follow either of the news anymore.. Ones leans way to far and falls over one way,, and the other does the other too... Media is a powerful tool... Ask Joseph Goebbels?

I guess it's a good thing I'm old and wore out,,,, or I'd go help with these fools dealing with the idiots running around waving a Rusian Flags, spitting and calling anyone with an American Flag a nazi...... Or fucking with a lady that's husband died in 9/11. Saying he deserved it...... Crap pisses me off....... But is alot going on. Next Civil War?? Is ALOT of unrest worldwide right now....... But I do guess there always is something........

Around here,, I don't know,,, seems more upheal from the last 8 years?? I never was an Obama follower, bout the only thing I think he did right was kill I can't spell it... Osmin? something like that.... Not that he had much to do with that even.....

I have afew family members that really felt the Affordable Heath thing... With bad effects...Their rates went double,, and had to take whatever doctor they could get.... But all this is my thoughts,,,, I just hope things go good for USA,, seeing as 'involved' all are nowadays.......

But I think that was ALL smoke and mirrors,,,, in a low blow attempt in hopes of getting some dirt.......

Kind of like Hillarys new book,,,, Stronger Together... Where she blames everyone but herself, for her loss.. Kind of like the book is...

Yeah man, it must be rough for guys like you where you live. I'd prolly get beat up on the regular there. I like to believe the youngsters are being rebellious like we all were in our haydays, but thankfully back then, the enemies were always from outside of America, so if push came to shove, we all knew we were Americans and it was always America first, like when Lansky and Lucciano intervened for the common good against u boats in NYC harbors. Now, the ideals of the enemy has been planted into the minds of our own people, so if a civil war ever pops off, it will be severely bloody and lengthy, and no matter the victors, America will be the loser and our adversaries will take our global position which will likely be really bad for mankind as a whole.

First year of Obamacare, I got a warning, 2nd year I got hit with a $300 penalty on my taxes. I told bossman either insure me, or I gotta quit. He didn't insure me, so I quit my job and jumped on welfare. So instead of contributing to myself and my country, I became a dependent which as a grown man is a double negative. Forced benefits is never a good thing for private citizens and will always end with the sacrificing of more rights. I'm a registered Dem, but I can't foresee voting blue again for a while. Trump might talk like a trucker/sailor, but he did make billions from millions and not only survived the entire Democrat party, but he beat them on multiple fronts and continues to do so while making lots of great advances for the sovereignty of the nation and betterment of our people. Money is being made everywhere and I too hope to be the next success story through hard work and personal sacrifice. It's when people do well that they feel charitable which is why capitalism will always be the best way for America. Government creates absolutely nothing, never has and never will, so to expand it to run every single facet of our lives will stimey the productivity of the people while themselves becoming a dependent (double negative) and ultimately fail the exact same way that every other attempt at socialism has.

I hope other Democrats can make peace with the fact that our party has been completely taken and make peace with that and keep our allegiance to our country. Republicans unfortunately are on the moral high ground right now, and there should be no shame to admit that. I'm not ashamed to admit that. Obama tried to back door my vote the way Hillary did to Bernie's people and now they've both been caught, as well as everyone between. Pencilneck Schiff still pushing the lie is not only counter-productive, but flat out seditious and borderline treasonous. It's now to the point that they're figuratively sucker punching referees for allowing the clock to run out and calling the game. The country is more important than you being the one that runs it.

So do you blend your nutrient powders up together into a sort of base concoction or two? And is the PH pretty stable? I find that the different nutrients I have seem to be all over the place re PH stability.

I’ve done a ton of Alaska (chainsaw) milling over the years, and run a Lucasmill a bit with a friend for the last year or two. My gf and I bought a 8” Peterson swingblade mill last year- it’s yet to be delivered as the guy is still dragging his feet putting it together. For making regular lumber I think the swingblade mills are where it’s at. They’re simple and reliable and keep on ticking while I seem to see the bandsaw mill guys having frequent issues. Bandsaws have their good points too though - just depends what you want to do.
The Alaska milling is great for large beams and wide slabs and boards, but I feel like I’ve pretty much had my share of being rattled to bits, sucking fumes and getting my ear drums blasted to oblivion.
The fun of carving up wood never seems to wear off though.

I blend up the chelated elements into a concentrated nutrient solution, similar to GH Flora Micro. The other 6 components I just mix into RO to make individual concentrates and with Hydro Buddy, I was able choose my target ppm of each element and conclude how much from each bottle. After I make the reservoirs, I need to add between 0.3ml/Gal - 0.5ml/Gal of PH down to the res and it's pretty lock solid for the next 5 to 6 days. I don't see much swing at all unless I'm using the Fulvic Humic blend which I am using now, then the predictability isn't as stable. I imagine due to the organic nature conflicting in some way, but generally, I find my PH probe less informative than my EC probe as shown in my last set of pics. The point of using salts is that it's WAY cheaper, you have WAY more control and the nutrient companies use those exact same salts mixed with water and food coloring, then sell it to people as a product aimed to sort of please all crops, like Miracle Grow and the like.

I'm familiar with the Alaskan mills, and want to build a sliding bandsaw, but I'll have to search the Tube for a swingblade mill to compare. I am extremely blue collar and very well rounded across every trade, so would greatly appreciate having a chunk of land to build out on. With logs to slab, and space to dry them, then build on, I would be like a pig in shit. All waste wood could be chunked, dried and gasified, that fuel can heat and power generators and other devices that consume combustible fuel. Syngas can be compressed into old LP cylinders for remote use, or a gasifier would be connected to a vehicle and totally replace gasoline with a 30% reduction in HP. With a trash pump and a bunch of 2", 4" and 6" PVC, one can hand drill a water well to over 100' deep with surprisingly not much effort at all.

As a man, I feel my experiences and skills would be much better realized and appreciated by others out yonder, but for now I'm trapped in an urban environment, biding my time, making very small advances in life with my grow and hopefully about to start a new and more productive endeavor very soon. After the robomower build, I still need to buy a truck then build a homemade conveyor to use to dig out a basement floor to fix this foundation, begin the decade long process of correcting the tilt of this house, use the enlarged basement to build a small wood shop, then start earning with it, and that is my goal for the rest of 2019. All that while still managing the grow and other bullshit life likes to throw at us to see who's paying attention.

As an example, here are my targets for Mid Bloom. I just made this up today, well I upped the K level from 150. I don't target micros here because I already wen through that to make the blend for concentrates, so for each gallon of Res I make, I give 3.78ml of Micro Mix. To make the other targets though, Hydro Buddy ("the app") has to figure out how much of each of the 6 other components I have mixed into individual concentrates is needed to achieve these targets.

I already have those things loaded up in "Substance Selection" tab on top/right, but once I click the greeen checkmark button, the app calculates and returns it's findings in the Results tab.

On the top where it says Mass (g) units is where it tells me how much of each I need. For example, my custom solution named AA-Epsom Salt requires 1.491 grams per gallon to add the correct amount of magnesium and sulfur from that product to achieve the desired targets. Be mindful that certain elements are also added in from other sources like sulfur, magnesium, potassium and others. Some people even have multiple sources of calcium, nitrate and phosphate. I'm doing just fine with what I use, so no need to expand the list, though if I found the need to, I would expand.

Being as though I mixed these concentrates at 1 gram for every 10ml of RO, converting the decimals is done in my head. I first need to shift the decimal one position to account for the 1:10, then the remainder of that is multiplied by number of gallons. In my grow, my blooms use 10 gallons, so I shift the decimal another position requiring I add 149.1ml to make all 10 of my gallons. Of course you could just input the number of gallons (or liters) that you're mixing on the main page, then do it that way and just have to shift the decimal just the one place, I'm too set in my ways and comprehend things in a per gallon basis, so I over complicate the process a bit I guess.

My bad, just noticed this is the old Mid Veg, the new one has upped K and S I think. The example is just fine though.

I can see that with this like pretty much everything else in life, there’s only so much in the way of shortcuts and shortcuts is what I’m already doing with bottles. It would be great to have a better idea what I’m feeding them so I can tweak things better- like add Epsom salts for sulphur, etc. But without dissecting the ingredients and doing the research to figure out how much of each element is there, and then running that through something like Hydro buddy, I’d just be guessing anyway. So the question is whether or not I want to spend the time to get into yet another pursuit.

Yeah it seems like life in the country could suit you well since you like Diy. It’s easier to specialize in urban settings where you have all sorts of life support systems in place. If you want to spend 50 years studying something totally obscure, you can. You don’t need to develop a lot of other life skills. Lots of old fishermen and whatnot here who have multi doctorates worth of info crammed in their heads, and then I meet visiting university grads, biologists and such, who’s brains are packed with similar amounts of specialized info but can barely feed themselves and have some pretty funny ideas about the real world.
Out here I’m so busy being jack of all trades there’s just not time to cram it all in. I have to hunt, fish, build, maintain many thousands of different tools as well as boats, vehicles, livestock, gardens, whatever, just as a baseline life support. No local stores to speak of, a lot of diy, and I need a big collection of random junk available to pillage parts from.
On second thought I’m sure if that’s strictly necessary or if it’s just how I’m doing it. :hmmmm: I like being in the bush and tend to do it the hard way, but nowadays a person could live almost anywhere and make a living just staring at their computer if they wanted to.

I admit, when I was younger, I loved the city and hated the country, but now I can't stand the city and feel trapped. I bet I'd feel right as home in a setting like yours, or near a junk yard.

The nutes thing, if you want to study, there's a some info in my Mix Nutes thread, at least it will summarize about 15-20 pages of Q&A I did on RIU regarding ratios of each element that is ideal for cannabis, but generally, there's a whole lot more about Hydroponics at ScienceHydroponics.com/blog-archive. I'm still picking wisdom out of there, it's like a scrap yard of hydro info, lol. Max Yield is a fairly good source of knowledge too. You've known me for years now and know I like to over complicate things to the 10th power. If you like simple, but still desire cheap, look into Jack's 321. It's a very popular dry salt regimen consisting of Jack's 5-12-26, Calcium Nitrate and Epsom Salt. All of the levels of that regimen are fairly close to what I aim for and lots of growers use it throughout the entire grow successfully. Another possibility is Megacrop which @Tead uses successfully. I admit, I have a lot of reservations about their ratios, still growers use it successfully as a stand alone and it doesn't require any weighing and mixing or the like.

Here's 2 different versions of the 321 vs Megacrop for comparison. JR Peters recommends 3.6-2.4-1.1. Canna growers abbreviated that to just 321 and got way better ratios. IMO, Megacrop not good at all.

Highya Sky, Weasel, guys,

I have always lived in the country, when I had a choice. I hate cities. I've built several houses, in several states, a lot of the time I learned on the fly. That's all fun stuff, too.
And just now figuring my way through the outdoor grow process with homemade organic nutes. Very interesting stuff. Cheers

There's a grower on overgrow.com named Lotus710 that makes a no till soil that I was really interested in. A bit of compost, some homemade bennies, a few different beneficiary plants and his buds looked to die for. There's definitely some magic left in the world, that's for certain!

it doesn't look that easy to me can you hold it still or is that hard to do with that scope!

I have the shakes, so I would need to steady my arm on something, but just wanted to demonstrate the benefits of a USB scope/smartphone combo and how we could use them to scope our buds for a much better idea of the color of trics. My face was a good 3'-4' away from every inspection. I suppose a mast could be wall mounted to hold the scope if you really wanted to get nuts, but I just wanted to make a quick demo is all.
