Eastenders legend Pam St Clement has revealed she has "amazing respect" for cannabis.

The 75-year-old smokes the drug on her new TV show Gone To Pot, which sees her embark on a US roadtrip with Loose Women's Linda Robson, panto veteran Christopher Biggins, darts ace Bobby George and former footballer John Fashanu.

Speaking about her experience, Pam, who played Pat Butcher on the BBC soap for 25 years, told Lorraine: "I have an amazing respect for that plant which can be so useful to us if it's used properly.

"The medical effects - which are yet to be confirmed - can be amazing.

"We all used it for medical conditions, great or small, and most came away feeling it had helped."

The actress went on to reveal that her co-stars Christopher and Bobby might have gone a little OTT when it came to smoking it.

She joked: "Biggins and Bobby really did tuck in a little bit!"

During the series Pam tries the split at an "alternative" art class, where she also puffs on a bong.

She said: "We were taken to this warehouse . . . there were easels, tables and chairs.

"We jumped in with both feet and sat down and started to paint this cactus.

"The guy came round with this joint and I took a puff, and Bobby took a puff then we got on with this painting.

"I thought, 'Oh well this a terrible painting and I don't know what to do with it'.

"I made it into an alien in the end. It wasn't a cactus at all."

The psychedelic painting session descended into chaos when the art teacher switched the humble joint for a stronger hit.

Pam said: "This person came along with a glass bowl thing with a pipe and a stem with an open top, like a mini bong, it was very delicate and she gave it to Linda then to me and she said, 'Take a puff'.

"So I took a puff and she said, 'Oh that's enough, that's enough' and I thought, 'Oh my God, this must be powerful'.

"I passed it on to Bobby and within five to ten minutes me and Bobby were virtually on the floor laughing it was so funny.

"I love it when you get the giggles when you shouldn't.

"It's wonderful – just crying we were – so refreshing to do that, it really is."
