Payson police arrested a local man Sunday after he reportedly intended to deal marijuana.

Tawn Thorn, 44, was arrested on suspicion of the third-degree felonies of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, along with the misdemeanors of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of meth, operating a vehicle without insurance and driving while under the influence. He was also arrested on suspicion of failure to register a vehicle.

Police pulled over Thorn on Sunday after noticing his pickup truck had an expired registration and did not have insurance, according to a police report. An officer reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and one-fourth of a pound of marijuana was reportedly found inside the engine compartment.

A search warrant of Thorn’s home found another ounce of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a rifle and $2,250 in cash, according to the report. A urine and blood sample reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and THC.
