Village Of Milford Establishes Marijuana Moratorium

The village of Milford has joined Milford Township and other municipalities in establishing a medical marijuana moratorium.

The 6-month moratorium forbids land use for growing and distributing medical marijuana, or allowing schools to provide training on the cultivation, processing and distribution.

Though the medical marijuana law was enacted in 2008, state law hasn't addressed the appropriate land use for the associated activities.

"We need some time to get our ordinances caught up with this law," said Terri Rusas, Milford Village Council president. "Most communities are doing this."

Milford Township established a similar moratorium a few weeks ago.

The issue will be discussed by the village planning commission, which will prepare a zoning ordinance amendment that addresses it.
