Vortex's Dev Lab: A Perpetual Thread For Developing Young Plants

I am caught up on your journal MV I see now why my plants look underfed your are much darker green than mine. The GDP is putting out some nice buds good job!

Thanks! She’s been a project, and still a bit stubborn, but certainly starting to come around now. :)

Yeah I'm in for the finale! :ciao:

Welcome!

GDP: 56 days from flip (49 Days in Flower)

This is the last day of week #7 in flower, bringing us to the start of week 8 tomorrow. That leaves us with about 10 more days (at the earliest) before we hit the breeders suggested harvest window. So she probably has another 2-3 weeks to go.

E9A83BE4-5877-4BFE-8161-88394030BE02.jpeg

She's humming along and growing flowers. They're starting to get heavy on her, and I'm having to tie up branches in one way or another. I'm sure this part isn't through, as her flowers haven't even thought about the swell yet. But she's getting there, and should start the swell shortly. She's just starting to darken up a few pistils here and there, and my guess is closer to 3 weeks, hell maybe even 4, than the 10 more days from the package.

I'll be turning on a little UVB for her starting tomorrow. Getting ready to set that up and get the timer set for it. Will go with short doses for the first few days to see how she responds (20min 3x/day) and then work up to 1hr 3x/day by the end of the week. Some run longer, some run shorter. I typically go for shorter. Just enough to kick it up a notch, plus balance access and safety. I may give longer a shot this time, just for shits and grins. I dunno. Guess I'll figure it out when I set up the timer. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Lotta love went into that plant. GDP never disappoints.
Looking forward to the harvest pics.

She sure was a finicky one to get going. I think she'll end up doing alright. I checked her Tuesday, and not quite ready yet. I'm going to check her again tonight, but it may be one more week or so. I'd like to get 15%-20% amber on her for that nice sedative couch lock since this is earmarked for a nighttime use for me. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I'll grab a pic of her later on today. She's swelled up and right on the edge for sure. Just waiting on the trichs to turn. There are places that are ready, and places that aren't. So she is really close, but now is not the time to throw caution to the wind.

She needs to hurry it up though. I have... a plan... (and she's blocking it right now.)

Sugar rails on the leaves are nice and amber. Very noticeable to the naked eye.

She's close. Really, really close. Still about 20% of pistils to turn, and maybe 60%-65% of the flowers are showing some amber. Some places more than others.

What's that mean? While I could go ahead and cut her, being the strain she is I'd like to see about 15% amber I think. Need the nighttime couchlock knock out, ya know? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Being a week out is good. Why? I have... a plan!

What though?

Well, like any good obsessed grower, I shall not be letting a good space go to waste.

But what's going on? What devious mischief will we be getting up to now?

We'll see what comes around when the chop happens, but let's just say for now that as much as I'd like to do something crazy, I think I'll be keeping it In House for a run.

GDP: 75 days from flip (68 Days in Flower)

This past Sunday, our little baby GDP runt met the hatchet man. It was chop day!

She had her ups and downs, but by golly she made it to the finish line. Even if she was almost a month behind the rest of the run she was supposed to be a part of.

We went from a 3-week runt out:

In the middle of hanging. Sleep tight, puddin pop.

You may recall that I lollipopped the shit out of her, and defoled her significantly too. Well, between that combination of "care", and that bad ass Budget LED board hanging above her, I was surprised by her goodies down at screen level, and even under it:

Talk about a girl with determination!

The trichs on them were mostly cloudy with maybe 2%-3% amber as well, so they weren't behind the tops by much at all.

This isn't a complaint by any means, but I do find it funny that after I picked them clean, lollipop and all, that poof! Have some nugs.

So other than dry/trim/cure/smoke reports, that's that.

Spent the last 2 days turning this 3x3 space over. Just a little more cleaning to do this evening, and she's ready for her next assignment.

What's that?

Tonight I will also be dropping...

Deluxe Sugar Cane, from In-House Genetics.

(Slurmint ix #7 x Platinum)

Indica leaning hybrid, 8-9week flowering time.

She should be a gooder!

Pretty much the same setup as with the GDP, and this is just a turn an burn. Single Dutch Bucket, hooked to a 5gal external res. Budget LED, 250w Red Spec. Mega Crop, calmag as needed, little rhino skin, terpinator, and of course, Z7.

May end up adding some res clear or some type of salt eating thing, and running it a few times during the grow as a flush. May help the drip trays and such from getting so much build up by the end. We'll see.

All for now, and I think we're caught up. :D

It was kind of funny, looking back. Not so much at the time though.

I have no idea what the deal was, but once she hit the solo cup she took off and didn't really look back. She was a little finicky and at times a hair slow, but she got there. Thick, dense, frosty AF buds. Sugar rails on the leaves even.

I guess the final weight and quality will be the final say, but if the "pre-dry" weight to end result ratio holds true, it will be worth it if the buds good.

And here... we... goooooo!!!!!

In the drink, snuggled up inside insulated boxes, on top of a heat mat. Temp is 79F, and now we wait. I'll check in on her tomorrow afternoon.

I ain't gonna lie, there's high hopes and much excitement for her. So much so that I heavily contemplated re-rigging the 3x3 part with a quick platform (I have the materials) and running two buckets in there. Common sense prevailed, and she'll fill the tent on her own just fine. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Sounds like a winner. Who doesn't like sugar cane???

I know, right? And this is Deluxe, even! :cheesygrinsmiley:

(It's Slurmint ix #7 x Platinum, which should be fire.)

A few impromptu pics of the GDP.

Moved her from the drying space into a curing bucket last night. After a night sealed up, the RH in the bucket was 57%. Dropped a big boveda pack in, and there we go. Tumbler did a fantastic job, I think. All but a dozen or so buds look like the above. Nice and trimmed, but not damaged or shaved down like a cutting type trimmer. Buds still retain their shape, just the leaves are gone. The few remaining have a crows foot or two left over that weren't quite dry enough, but that's fine. Still a significant time saving. The bucking down of a branch is a wash, but overall time saved is absolutely worth it all.

What comes out of the catch bag?

B6FC8BE1-2365-43AF-96E4-126FABDEF78A.jpeg

Mostly ground up leaves. Well, crumpled up is more accurate. Some of it's more fine than others. This was the last scoop, so it's extra dusty. Yes, there's a little kief from the leaves crumpling as well.

Had a tiny test nug earlier. It's really nice already, so only going to get even better as it cures.

The trim is gonna make some damn fine oil, too! :cheesygrinsmiley:

And we’re rolling! Freshly sprouted, destined for greatness, it’s....

Deluxe Sugar Cane from In-House Genetics.

A cross of Slurmint ix #7 x Platinum.

She’s such a tiny thing, but that won’t be the case for long. She’s under seedling lights right now, but will be headed into a bigger home in a few days as soon as a root is visible at the bottom of the rooter.

Whether that is in a solo cup or just straight into the main bucket, I dunno. We'll see how well she grows and how fast between now and then. My guess, and if I were placing money on it with the bookie, would be that she's headed straight to the bucket in a day or two. :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley: :cheesygrinsmiley:

Not that there was any doubt.

Been awful busy, and not really been in the journaling mood.

I think she’s gonna be just fine though. Flipped her August 5th, after pre staging for a week with a decreasing light schedule of an hour a day.

this was flip day, before I added in the G8 Bloom Booster. Been a nice addition so far. She’s doing really well.

Not 100% sure what I’ll run after this. Got plenty of options though.

I will also be swapping the rig out for an rdwc. Temps will be down, so why not? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thinking I may run Killer A5 Haze. Since she likes to stretch, the tent should fill in well with that.

21 Aug? Really?

Well, shit. Time keeps on slippin slippin slippin....

Let’s catch up, shall we?

she’s chopped, dried, and now curing. Holy shit she is already an eye crosser.

Beautiful plant, great rails!!

Thanks! She was really pretty easy to grow. Nothing out of the ordinary or special. Took every mix like a champ. I’m going to skip the scrog net in there next time and just quadline. The way I’m getting my net in there around the piping is causing me to lose space. I can get her spread out across the tent better, as opposed to the almost diamond shape now with the frame.

Well well well. Sittin here with a cig thick doob of the Deluxe. Wow. Just wow.

And yes, it was only cut 2 weeks ago. But there are other games afoot!!?!!

Made a last minute call (well, more like 8 days late) to grab a clone of the strawberry eclair (g13) running over in the Lab 4x4.

Being a “limited edition”, I figured it might end up being something worth saving. If not, won’t be much loss. Into some rooting mix, then dirt, and now we wait.

We’re built, tested, and ready to roll.

The system holds 20gal (75L) total. The bucket holds just over 9.5 gallons (36L), and the res can swallow the rest and sits about half an inch below the hole for the probes. I can live with that. I was expecting more like 30gal total, but whatever. It’ll be fine for a single site. If not, I can always bump the res size up to a bigger tote.

More later. This deluxe sugar cane is makin my brain fuzzy.
