What's the best way to sex my seedlings?

Ok so the two on the far left are older of course. 1 of the 2 big plants are showing male preflowers. The other 8 are just a few days over 2 weeks old, and they're sprouting their 5th node. So my question is do I just kick the light to 12/12? I know the plants will naturally show sex but, my good buddy says as long as they have at least 4 nodes I can sex them. Please all help/comments are apprecaited!

I thought you couldn't sex the plant until it was showing signs of Male pollen sacks/female hairs?

Also, Why are you growing the two larger plants at the very edge of the pots? Surely this will make for uneven roots when repotting?

Simon, they were LST'd to the side, the plants are growing from the center.

Technically you may force them to drop their skibbies when ever you’d like to. You may go 12/12 until you can spot their junk, then throw em back into vegging until desired height.

The male/female ratio is the same with bag seed as it is with known genetics.
I am germinating some "cristal Paradise" (why they spell it wrong I will never know) from KC Brains and praying for a girl lol!
Don't feel to bad about the bag seed some of the best stuff out there comes from just that!!
I am going to sex right away then re-veg I am at my plant limit and can't bother getting in trouble over boy's!!
And yes you are safe to 12/12 from seed with no troubles to check sex.

Cool SmokeyJoe thats good to know. It sounds like kicking them back into veg for a few more weeks is an option. I'm torn between that and letting them stay on 12/12..... which happened tonight

to flower and then vegg again?

im gonna experiment putting some porn in my grow room(when i get around to growing lol). My theory is that the males after 1-2 days of porn will show their pollen sacks...

Sex all my plants in veg cycle (19/5 or 20/4 usually), usually by week 3 from seed pop and all 100% by week 4 from seed pop. Use my 7X eyelupe. 12/12 to sex makes no sense.

Well I wouldn't say it makes no sense. Not all strains show sex in 3-4 weeks of veg but most will show in under 2 weeks of 12/12. I think it's just a matter of how much time and space you have to grow plants that might be males after a month or so of veg time.

whats good dead, your not able to sex a plant until the flowering stage is brought upon the plant. There is no trick to trying to see what sex it is during VEG CYCLE. What your doing is probably the best idea so far. FLOWER it, see what you have then throw it back into the VEG cycle. It won't hurt the plant **DON'T THROW THOSE "MALES" AWAY JUST YET! Some FEMALE plants tend to show sacs similar to MALES as well but do show their pistols later on.** BTW another way to produce the ratio of more fem/males would be by not stressing the plant during the 3rd or 4th week of VEG. Someone over @ Growing Marijuana Forum had posted a sticky bout this study. Check it out, research

What strain does not show sex with preflowers before week 4 of veg cycle? I'm still looking! Have grown the spectrum. By 2 weeks of 12/12 you'd see full fledged sex parts.
Give me the strain name and if I haven't grown it yet, and I can get it, might try it. But, by now it's a joke to me that people can't sex with preflowers very early or don't believe it. I was a manufacturing engineer for 30+ years and used an eyelupe constantly throughout the day. When my seedlings get over 6 nodes, I start looking at the junctions with an eyelupe. By 6-9 nodes usually is where they start to show and you can see a slight swelling behind the stipule and in front of the emerging new branch. Just watch that spot for a day or 2 and it shows either a rounded bump protruding with slight stem (male) or a more pointed protrusion with no distinguishable stem attachment (female). Preflowers jump out quickly and are easy to differentiate male/female. If not sure move suspects outer to light and move fem babies to center light until positive. If you aren't looking with a magnifier then you really aren't looking!
