When does weed develop "weed" smell?

Its my first grow,plants are 6 months old,but when I touch them and I smell my fingers it definetly doesnt smell anything near that deep forest smell you feel when buy from dealer..smell sucks.. So wheres the catch? My weeds should be coming close to harvest.

That smell will develop after drying and curing takes place.

Some strains have very low odor as others have a very potent smell to them, its all in the genetics. Antics is correct as well, sometimes weed may smell like grass or hay when first cut, but after a good cure you get a fine cannabis aroma we all know and love.
