Who Would Have Thought? MedBox: The Beginning Of Marijuana Vending Machines

With 18 states as well as Washington DC legalizing marijuana use for medicinal and recreational purposes, who would have thought they would come up with something called MedBox? Medbox is somewhat of a marijuana vending machine that resembles a RedBox DVD dispenser. However, users cannot just walk up to the machine, put some money in and walk away with their pot. These machines sit behind state licensed dispensaries in Florida and legal users will have to show their medical marijuana card. The machine will recognize the card and then the clerks will give it to legal users. This is all according to a report by Bloomberg BusinessWeek on May 9.

The MedBox is black and armored which means it cannot be broken into. It has been invented by Bruce Baker, who is an occasional pot user himself as well as a chiropractor. Although it seems like some sort of vending machine, Mr. Baker does not like to call it this because not just anyone can get pot out of it by putting money into it.

MedBox doesn't just dispense weed. It also dispenses pot laced brownies, lozenges with weed in them, and other pot laced treats. Just like not anyone can buy from the machine but those who do have the medical marijuana card can't have as much as they want either. The MedBox has a database where it keeps track of who gets what so no one gets more than they should. This is a great way to tax legal marijuana and regulate it. This is also a great way to get the word out that marijuana is not a bad thing.
