La Línea National Police officers working within Group II of the UDYCO (Drugs and Organised Crime Squad) arrested a young couple on September 13th for growing cannabis plants on the roof terrace of their property.
Suspicions were raised a few weeks ago when police began receiving telephone calls from neighbours in Calle Santa Ana, where the couple had recently purchased the property, stating that cannabis plants were being cultivated on the roof terrace.
Following the calls, officers began observing the scene, and discovered that a metal fence had been put up to enclose the roof terrace of the one-storey flat. A green plastic canopy had been attached to the fence to conceal the growing cannabis plants behind it.
Flowerpots
Officers were then satisfied that the inhabitants were in fact involved in the illegal activity after they saw cannabis plants embedded in large planters, and subsequently obtained a search warrant to be able to enter the property.
Once the warrant had been issued, officers found 15 plant pots containing cannabis plants which were between 1.5 and two metres tall.
In addition to that discovered in the exterior of the property, officers found several other leaves which had been cut and taken into the kitchen to dry out for later use.
Haul
In their press statement, officers explained that the plants, which had a high level of tetrahydrocannabinol (from which hash, marijuana and pot are obtained), were found. The net weight of the haul was 19 kilograms and it was estimated that the cannabis would have generated approximately 15,000 euros on the drugs market.
Police immediately arrested the inhabitants, identified as J.J.E.P. (27) and S.M.M. (28).
The National Police later commended the hard work and cooperation of La Línea Local Police officers in the anti-drug operation.
