Ben Rediger and his team wants to make medical marijuana for veterans. This weekend, they will work to turn their dream into reality.

Education to Grow is a locally based company designed to promote education and access to medical cannabis. Rediger, one of the group leaders, says veterans in need of medication face too many hurdles.

The group will host a fundraiser for local veterans at the Metamora Fields Gold Club on Saturday, May 20, from 6pm to 9pm.

According to Rediger, many veterans suffer from qualifying conditions, such as cancer, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Several veterans, he says, are not able to pay for the medical treatments. The fundraiser will help pay necessary registration and fingerprinting fees for local veterans who qualify for the medical marijuana program.

"What we're finding with the issues with the VA, is it takes them longer to get in to see their physician and many of them are sick and cannot wait," said Rediger.

The fundraiser will feature dinner, live music and a silent auction.
