420 Magazine Guidelines Revision - 2014

420

Founder
420 Magazine is revising its policy on certain controversial topics. We have entered a new era of common sense and personal responsibility in this war of information and with respect for the current level of cannabis awareness among the general public, we have decided to relax our guidelines concerning discussions of; getting high for the first time, alcohol, vape-pens, homemade smoking devices, driving while stoned, tobacco and inappropriate strain names referring to hard drugs, minors and dangerous chemicals (ie Green Crack, LSD, Agent Orange, etc). Our guidelines are being updated and we appreciate all of the feedback that we have received on these issues.

420 Magazine was created out of love in 1993. One cannabis warrior developed this powerful weapon of communication to fight against the untruths that had become entrenched in the conservative mindset of the misinformed masses; to share information, to create worldwide cannabis awareness, to help people grow their own medicine, to help sick people treat themselves after so many doctors had given up on them and to help change the draconian, illegal, outdated laws that have darkened the lives of so many.

Our Guidelines were developed over 21 years of trying to share this information without getting shut down; trying and succeeding. Keeping our forums free of discussions that could get the site taken down is an essential, daily task that enables us to freely provide this information to everyone who wants or needs to learn about cannabis. By adhering to our guidelines, we also help to preserve this social network of the most wonderful, caring and tolerant people, from all over the world.

420 Magazine lives in a house where ego is left at the door along with your shoes. We are polite and we like polite people. We do not tolerate immature behavior and we do not like the fact that some breeders name their strains after drugs, after dangerous chemicals, or after child-related activities. We find this style of naming phenotypical variations distasteful and have strived over the years to disassociate our most beloved and cherished cannabis plant from such topics.

Avoiding misleading assumptions about cannabis users was also the reason for the banning of vape-pen discussions; however we must ask ourselves, in the face of such widespread use and media coverage, if we are fighting a battle that is so almost over, that banning such things places us in an unwanted authoritarian position. Our standpoint on e-cigs, which evolved out of concern for our members health regarding information on the site has also evolved into an almost obsolete view of the subject.

In the light of recent censorship accusations being made against us by a certain seedbank, we have decided that this is a battle in which we have neither the the time nor the energy to participate. We step back from our censorship of TGA seeds and we wish them the best for their future; we would like to apologize to any member who felt unjustly affected by this unfortunate situation.

Current media coverage and legalization of recreational cannabis use in two states, shows that the general public is at least educated enough by now to know the difference between our beloved cannabis plant and the dangerous chemicals that some growers like to refer to in their description of a strain's potency or effect.

420 Magazine would like to keep our focus on awareness, growing and medicinal use of this plant in all its wonders. We stand together on the cusp of full legalization and the last thing we want to do is become embroiled in drama.

Please remember that our guidelines only govern your interaction with others on this site. We have no interest in what our members do in private, only what they share on our website. That is information which we present to the world and represents cannabis, not only to experienced users/growers, but also to a multitude of silent, inexperienced members and non-members to whom we feel a duty to present safe and useable information.

To summarize; 420 Magazine, in the spirit of removing negativity from our community, has decided to soften the policy on discussions of; getting high for the first time, alcohol, vape-pens, homemade smoking devices, driving while stoned, tobacco and inappropriate strain names referring to hard drugs, minors and dangerous chemicals (ie Green Crack, LSD, Agent Orange, etc). A recent discussion with a well-known breeder convinced us to reconsider this policy and from now on, those strain names will not be censored in any way.

We feel that our present membership is adult-minded and responsible enough to discuss any controversial topic in an appropriate manner. We ask only that you continue to be wonderfully mature and responsible adults and we hope that this relaxation of our guidelines helps us to interact and learn with each other in a more positive, dynamic and convivial environment.

420 Magazine appreciates your understanding and support in this matter.

420 Magazine's Posting Guidelines
Welcome to 420 Magazine, the premiere site bringing the positive message of Cannabis and Hemp awareness to the world. Thank you for activating your membership and agreeing to abide by our posting guidelines. We appreciate your decision to join our Mission.

Maturity and Age
420 Magazine and its members are serious about bringing Cannabis awareness to the world. Members must be 18-21 years or older to register, as required by your local, state and federal laws.

We appreciate and encourage mature posting and behavior. Please respect your fellow members by using the free spell check software included with the forum. Please refrain from posting in all capital letters, writing in the style of a rAnSom NoTe, the excessive use of juvenile slang and the use of extra exclamation points, commas, or other symbols *&^??? 420 Magazine is an adults-only forum, and in our experience, posts and posting styles of this nature tend to attract minors. We do not allow the discussion of underage smoking and/or smoking around minors, unless it involves a legal doctor recommending medical Marijuana to an underage patient.

420 Magazine is a Reference Site, Not a Market
Posts pertaining to the buying/selling/trading/swapping/testing/giving of seeds, clones, pollen, cannabis, hash, mail order Marijuana or any other substance or article are not permitted. MMJ Sponsors can advertise their medicine with prices and availability, however are not allowed to implicate 420 Magazine in any transactions by discussing logistics of exchanging money for product in our forums and/or private messages. That must be done offsite. Additionally, Medical Marijuana patients are asked to refrain from using the site to solicit caregivers and/or collectives.

Due to repeated feedback from our valued members about solicitation and spam via private message, members must have at least 50 posts to use the Private Message system.

MMJ Dispensary & Delivery Service Posting Guidelines
Co-ops, Collectives, Dispensaries & Delivery Services are expected to comply with all of our Forum Posting Guidelines. Posts pertaining to other substances, including drugs are not permitted. Posts soliciting any of the aforementioned shall be deleted and the posting member potentially banned.

The Medical Marijuana Co-ops, Collectives & Dispensaries forum is reserved for our sponsors to advertise their shops/services, so please do not promote your business without first becoming a Sponsor. We only work with ethical businesses, offering legal services to legal patients in their respective legal states. Please contact sales@420magazine.com for more information.

Some dispensaries make false reports against each other in forums, to slander their competitors. Because of this, we are forced to organize strict guidelines to protect all of us involved. Please respect our guidelines as they are in place to protect you. We do not tolerate bashing or flaming.

If you would like to show us your products, we ask that you please use our gallery only, any off site links and/or photos will either be deleted or re-uploaded to our gallery to avoid a forum full of missing photos when the source deletes them. Photo Gallery Guide: How to Resize, Upload & Post Photos

Promoting your business here is a privilege, not a requirement. Please do not disrespect our staff members, just because you disagree with our guidelines.

Participation
420 Magazine supports vigorous and spirited debate. When you post, please make it meaningful, civil, and reasoned. Expletives are discouraged and subject to edit without notification. Please do not post in a manner that hijacks the topic, or post duplicate messages. Our forums are a place of learning and teaching; exclusively about Cannabis or Hemp related topics, which means any off topic posts and/or blogs will either be moved to the Off Topic Area or deleted.

Our members are mature and serious about bringing the positive message of Hemp and Cannabis awareness to the world. We treat each other with respect and dignity. Our members are from all races, creeds, sexual preferences, and nationalities. Contribute if you have something to say, read and learn if you do not.

Rules on Hyperlinking
420 Magazine allows linking to most other sites for the purpose of providing a reference. We do not allow either recommending, linking to, or discussions of other Cannabis related forums/communities, blogs, listings, or other networking oriented communities such as Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter or Google Plus. While we would like to be more directly connected with the entire global Cannabis community, unfortunately there are many bad seeds who spoil the fun for the rest of us. Allowing posts to these other sites has historically always gotten out of hand with sites spamming our forums with non sponsored products, attempts to recruit our members for other websites, etc.

Any links included in a post that are seen to be of a commercial or promotional nature from an external site are not permitted. Off-site links in signatures are prohibited for members; only Sponsors may tastefully link to their websites. This helps preserve sales for our Sponsors as well as saving our valued members from fraudulent links to phishing sites and/or sites tracking IP addresses.

Before linking to an offsite reference, we respectfully request that members utilize our Search Feature and/or Search Tips to find and link to on-site content; if available. We encourage members to participate in establishing desirable content here. We hope all members will consider that 420 Magazine is a free site and that we exist solely due to the support of our Sponsors and the generosity of our members who make Voluntary Donations. We are always delighted to receive donations, which are used to help sustain our mission of bringing cannabis and hemp awareness to the world

We work very hard to make this the best source of information for everyone. Please respect this and do not promote other forums here, instead help us build this international alliance of free thinkers.

Guidelines Violations and Responsible Members
420 Magazine has a dedicated team of moderators that actively help members with problems and resolve any policy violations. Mistakes and errors will be treated with kindness and understanding; deliberate or malicious violations may receive a warning, infraction or ban.

This forum is for your enjoyment, please actively participate in helping us maintain our great vibe. Every thread contains a
Report-Post.jpg
"Report Post" button located to the bottom left of every Post and to the top right of each Private Message. Please feel comfortable utilizing this feature. Our moderators will get your report and treat it with discretion while resolving the problem.

If someone makes an inappropriate comment in your thread, please use the report post feature. Please do not engage or reply directly. This tends to make the problem more complicated for the moderators to resolve. If one of your posts is deleted, please wait at least 48 hours for an advisory before contacting us for the reason. Sometimes one moderator may delete something quickly to remove the violation and/or negative energy, while another moderator may deliver the advisory when they come on shift. Not all staff members have the same responsibilities and powers, we work collectively as a team. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this area.

Enjoy sharing, teaching and/or learning while you are here, the world is watching so please act as mature adults.

Personal Security and Grow Journals
Members are responsible for their own Internet security and should be aware that posts in the public area are discoverable by search engines. The staff will help protect your anonymity by removing personal email addresses and links to personal sites as they are found. For your own safety, we ask that you not give out your personal information to anyone.

If you receive any spam messages from another community, magazine, or someone trying to sell you a product or service, please alert one of the 420 Staff so we can handle the matter accordingly. This type of behavior is unethical and a violation of our guidelines.

420 Magazine requires that growers who post journals of the growing of Marijuana do so in accordance with applicable and current State Law; and, in some cases, Federal Law. We disavow responsibility for any actions taken by any members that fall outside the bounds of the respective laws or customs that bind them. 420 Magazine has neither the capacity nor inclination to actively moderate all posts or threads for these conditions but we will remove any post or thread that we determine, at our sole discretion, to be suspect of a violation in this area.

When inviting other members to visit your grow journals, please do not post duplicate invitations on multiple threads as this is considered spamming and is prohibited. Not only does it upset members who have to receive the email notifications, but it sends the wrong message to others to follow suit. Please make use of the Private Message system for inviting members from your contact list.

Due to numerous spam attempts from non-sponsored LED companies, we no longer allow grow journals that showcase non-sponsored led grow lights because the resellers try to sidestep paying for advertising by posting numerous grow journals on various websites. Any grow journals that are found to be showcasing or promoting the lights of a non-Sponsored LED company will be deleted. It's unfortunate that a few bad seeds have to ruin the sharing of knowledge for everyone else, however if we allow this to continue, none of our sponsors will pay us to advertise. We are truly grateful for your understanding and support.

General Rules
All video clips must be 420 related, except in the Off Topic Area, and embedded in the post. Check out our How To Post/Embed Videos tutorial for instructions on how to correctly embed a video into a post. To protect our valued members against phishing attacks, we have disabled HTML on the entire site. Therefore, posting HTML embed codes will not work here. To avoid trojans and viruses, no links to external viewing or audio sources are permitted. We wish to host all content on site, for the convenience of our members.

All posted images must be Cannabis or Hemp related, except in the Off Topic Area, without any offensive content whatsoever. No raunchy photos or nudity allowed. All images must be uploaded through our Photo Gallery, because off-site links can be deleted or moved outside of our control leaving 420 Magazine with dead links and an untidy forum. Uploaded photos become the copyright property of 420 Magazine. Occasionally banned members demand that all of their images be removed from our website which forces us to sift through hundreds of thousands of posts to get them out. This does not remove your copyright, however gives us the right to keep the photos on site, which also helps the community because your data continues to educate others even beyond an expired membership.

Our Photo Gallery Tutorial describes the steps required to upload and link to a photo. Non-420 photos are allowed in the Off Topic Photo Gallery provided they do not violate other guidelines. Please refer to the Off-Topic Forum Guidelines for additional information.

420 Magazine's news department screens all candidate stories for content, source credibility, and citation methodology. We only post stories that meet our standards but we accept that members also wish to spread Cannabis Awareness. We ask our members to submit any news tips to news@420magazine.com for consideration and processing.

420 Magazine does not allow discussion of media piracy, growing without the consent of the homeowner or getting animals high - medicating your pet properly and responsibly with edibles for medical purposes is acceptable, getting an animal high for fun is not. We do not condone or allow discussions about using butane to make butane hash oil aka BHO.

Please do not discuss the shipping of seeds. We appreciate that this may be a bit of a dilemma however, unfortunately, it is a felony to discuss/promote importation of seeds into the United States. It is acceptable to reference a strain's origin for reference purposes, provided you don't recommend or link to a non-sponsored seed bank.

420 Magazine does not wish to perpetuate the myths collectively known as Reefer Madness. These fallacious arguments and other dishonest tactics have been used for decades to scare the public and avoid truthfully debating the benefits of Cannabis. We recognize that budding young activists sometimes need to touch on these topics in order to learn to debunk propaganda with facts, so we respectfully request that appropriate context always be provided when discussing this topic. Please do not dignify the prohibitionist’s argument by buying in to the negativity, posting videos, or linking to these types of sites.

Thank you for reading through our posting guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at support@420magazine.com
