AUSTIN, Texas – Compassionate Cultivation, a state-licensed medical cannabis cultivator and dispensary, will host Texas dignitaries at its facility to celebrate Rep. Stephanie Klick, R-Fort Worth, and her pioneering work in medical cannabis during a dedication ceremony from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 28 at 12701 Lowden Lane, Building 501, Manchaca, Texas.

Compassionate Cultivation CEO Morris Denton will present Rep. Klick with a plaque acknowledging her work before dedicating one of the provider's vegetation rooms as the Honorable Stephanie Klick Room for her influential work in the passage of the Texas Compassionate Use Act, which allows qualifying patients access to cannabis rich in cannabidiol – or CBD – with prescriber approval.

Compassionate Cultivation has also named its first strain of CBD-rich cannabis the Klick Strain in honor of Rep. Klick.

"Rep. Stephanie Klick helped start this important movement along with the great people at the Epilepsy
Foundation Texas," said Denton. "It took someone of a special background, a longtime nurse, to really
understand from a medical perspective the hope, promise and truth that this medicine represents.

"And just as Rep. Klick gave life to the Compassionate Use Act, the Honorable Stephanie Klick Room will give life to every dose of medicine that will ever come out of our facility."

Rep. Klick authored HB 892 and sponsored its sister bill SB 339, which was signed into law by Gov. Greg
Abbott in 2015.

"I'm thankful that these Texans suffering from intractable epilepsy will soon have an alternative treatment option," said Klick.

"And while many of us worked long hours to push the Compassionate Use Act through, I am grateful for this thoughtful acknowledgement."

State and local officials, patients and their families, and Compassionate Cultivation representatives will be in attendance at the invite-only event. Members of the media must RSVP by emailing the attached press contact before 12 p.m. Monday Nov. 27. Only confirmed guests can attend.

Attendees will receive a guided tour of the Compassionate Cultivation facility followed by a barbecue cookout, live music, and beer and wine.

During the guided tour, attendees will see one of the first legal cannabis crops in state history.

"That morning we'll be moving our seeds from a propagation rack to the Honorable Stephanie Klick Room," Denton said. "Not only are we naming the grow room after her, but it's also the first time that plants will occupy that room."

Compassionate Cultivation planted its first round of cannabis seeds on Oct. 31, immediately following the final approval of its medical cannabis license by Texas Department of Public Safety.

Compassionate Cultivation is one of only two businesses licensed to grow cannabis that is high in non-psychoactive CBD and low in psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol – or THC – in Texas. The company is a vertically integrated facility, meaning the company oversees the entire process from seed to sale.

Compassionate Cultivation's chief medical officer Dr. Karen Keough, a Board Certified Child Neurologist who specializes in treating intractable epilepsy at Child Neurology Consultants of Austin, recently penned a column in the Texas Tribune that addresses how she came around to seeing CBD as a legitimate medical treatment .

Only qualifying patients with intractable epilepsy are eligible to purchase CBD products with a physician's prescription under the Texas Compassionate Use Act.

Pending final approval from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Compassionate Cultivation plans to start selling its cannabis oil as early as January 2018 – after the first batch of plants are harvested and cured, after the oil is extracted from the plant matter, and after the oil has been tested for purity and safety.
