Please help Roger Christie, the Hilo man who has been held by the Federal government in detention since July of 2010 on marijuana charges without bail or a trial. Senate Resolution 12 (SR12) along with Senate Concurrent Resolution 31 (SCR31) have been entered into the legislative session by Senator Slom with several Democratic co-signers. I have attached a PDF of SR12. SCR 31 is basically identical. In order for these resolutions to achieve anything they must be given a hearing by the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor.
I ask you to please contact Clayton Hee, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor at 586-7330, and the Vice Chair Maile Shimabukuro at 586-7793, and urge them to schedule a hearing for this resolution. I have also attached an excel file with the phone numbers of all the legislators so you can find yours and contact them. You can also visit the legislative website at Hawaii State Legislature to track bills, send emails, submit testimony, etc.
I ask you to forward this information, post it on Facebook, etc., to get people involved in seeing to it this flagrant violation of the right to a speedy and fair trial and of access to bail is corrected.
