On the edge of the sea

Puerto Rico 1968, 1st ship deployment out of the Boston naval yards prior to our Vietnam deployment.

Fresh caught in our all white liberty uniforms, sitting at a bar watching the gyrations of a mostly nude brown goddess of the dance, perspiration dripping from her bent over back and someone taps my shoulder. "Around back in the courtyard-reefer!"

The rear of the bar featured an outside enclosed courtyard and twenty-odd of my mates were gathered there, watching an employee roll a 2' joint (3-4oz)in an opened newspaper-amazing bit of business! We honked on the sucker, wreathed in smoke, eventually all out of our minds. I distinctly remember carrying on a most learned conversation with a palm tree at the oceans edge with a full moon for backdrop.

I have never slept so well in my life... until the red in Panama, the Thai stick in Thai land, that ungodly herb from Hawaii that sent me tripping. The flaming asteroid story probably tops this but I'll save that one for later.:peace:

That's an awesome memory to have!
