The Southwest Arizona Patient Alliance will offer help to people applying for a medical marijuana card Thursday evening.

The State Department of Health Services will start taking applications Thursday from qualified patients and caregivers.

The final rules state those with a debilitating medical condition will need a written certification from their doctor.

The medical marijuana card application will be available on the Arizona Department of Health Services' website at 8 a.m.

SWAPA will hold an Open House from 4-7 p.m. for volunteers, members, patients and their caregivers at 8387 N. Oracle Road, Suite 100.

Those who show up will receive assistance in filling out their online application and get their photo taken for their medical marijuana registry identification card.

A panel of medical and legal experts will also speak and answer questions about medical marijuana.

SWAPA calls itself an alliance in Tucson and surrounding southern Arizona areas that was formed to give patients a voice in the medical cannabis industry, to be self advocates, and help promote patient's rights in the legal, medical, and political processes for medical cannabis.
