Help - why didn't plants revert to veg state

I put 5 week old WhWidow and AusBlue plants grown in soil from seed (my first grow) under 12/12 to sex. After a few days, sex showed and I tossed males. Put females back under their regular light HPS 1000 to 21 hours on and 3 off and they never went back to veg. I wanted them to so they would fill out so I could get clones. It's been a over a month now since they started flowering and they are budding like crazy and I can't stop them. Now it's way too late. My question - why didn't they go back to veg state.

With all the crossing and desire for fast flowering plants some strains are more prone to auto flowering than one knows. All it takes is a trigger to set them into bloom and the ruderellis that's been bred in takes over and keeps them there. I'd change them back to flower and not plan on using them for mother plants as they wouldn't be the best candidates. Sorry.

Thanks SmokinMoose and Racefan - No special ferts. I'll change them to 12/12 today. Don't want to ruin them now!
