hello everyone this build will take around 1-2 weeks due to things out of my control just a heads up
my reasons for building this test tank is mainly for seeds to test new strains ideas nutes and document different things and try different ways withouth tieing up my main space basically just a little place to play but something that could be copied and used for the average person so with that in mind i made a list of things that are a must for this design
1 stealth no one needs to know our business
2 micro grow a lot of people dont have a lot of space to grow in for multiple reasons
3 easy to get parts
4 cost effective
5 carbon scubber to go with 1
6 other things as i go along
lets get started
first off is the cabinet i found this one at goodwill for 15 bucks and it locks even better
size is 24 inchs long 24 inchs high and 14 inches wide=2.33 square feet =4 cubic feet
already have some supplies in it
fans 0 if you need to source these items roughly 25.00 for the fans and the controller
lets see if i need to order fans so they can be on there way here while im building everything else so lets do some math
i know my grow box is 4 cubic feet and on average you want to exchange the air every 1 mins
so we want 4 cfm for that but we also need to cool the lights and run the carbon scrubber also i will be going with dual fans with a fan controller incase i want to run a 150w hps in the future but to start we are going to do cfl and led
for air cooled hid we add roughly 5% to the fans per light for non air cooled we need to add 10-15% per light we want a carbon scrubber i will actually run 2 one of each side so we need to add 25% for that
for hot climates like southern cali add 25%, for hot and humid climates like the south up to 40%.
im going to add 40%
ok lets break this down
1 4 cfm for the grow box
2 add 15% for 1 non air cooled hid
3 for a carbon filter we need to add 25%
4 i am in the south where its 98-99% humidity all the time i want to add 40% to my fan
5 lets add it all together 4+(4x15%)+(4x25%)+(4x40%)
4 + .6 + 1 + 1.6 =7.2 cfm i think my math is right
in a nut shell this means pretty much any pc case fan will work they average 50-130 cfm and i have a few laying around and ill be useing 4 2 for output 1 for input and 1 for circulation so no need to order any so my cost =0
i already have a 4 port fan controller if you dont have one a baaqii f01 is cheap enuff at 10.39 sence i have one my cost 0
the materials to build the scrubber
ill be going with a simple design pencil holder carbon filter cost 19.95 for 2
for this you need activated carbon i got mine at walmart 5.99 for 9oz in the pet supply isle with the aquarium stuff
2 of the mesh pencil holders the bigger one and the smaller one
walmart had the smaller one int he school supplies 2.99 i got 2 cost
the jumbo mesh ones ( 110mm ) i had to pick up at office depot at 3.99 i got 2 as well
growing medium will be 100% composted horse manure i have tons of it so 0 cost
lights total 103.75
now on to the great debate the lights im thinking for my setup to run around 150 actual watts and before anyone starts i have a 600w hps system i run as well but this is a test tank and seed generator latter maybe we will go 150 hps but i have some things i want to try first
for vegging i selected cfl's 13w 6500k 860 lumens 12 of them for a totall of 156w and 10360 lumes
all supplies were gathered at home depot except the power strips they were 3 bucks each at goodwill and i got 4 of them 12 bucks
lights 12 bulbs they were 9 bucks for a 4 pack 27.00
plug in light sockets i got 9 of these at 2.29 each 20.61
1 bulb to 2 bulb splitters i got 6 of these at 2.69 16.14
flowering lights these i decided to go led on cause they were on clearance at my home depot and i couldnt pass them up 40.00
the cree 100w 2700k indoor outdoor damp rated bulbs 18w 1600 lumen on clearence for 5.00 each i got 8 for a totall of 144w at 12800 lumens hps has around 105 lumes per watt these run at 89 they have another set of cree bulbs that run 113 and are brighter than hps watt for watt but they are 13 bucks a bulb so cost effective is not there anyway 8 lights 5 bucks 40 bucks
thats where im at at the moment next lets start construction
