Glad you got your nutes figured out! The idea to switch to a more powerful light is a good one. I use a 1000 watt MH for veg and the girls love it.

Also good job on the topping. You did top to the 3rd node and you left a nice chunk on top that will heal and prevent the stem from splitting This is the point where I would start the manifolding process. What are your current plans for training them before you flower?

    Re: Another noob grow!

Thanks! Yeah I figured since I already have the hood, digi ballasts, and fans hooked up, why not right? And You can see how the more dense growing ones aren't getting shit for light penetration.
I'm not too sure on how I plan to train them. Being as I'm so new I'm afraid I'll complicate things for myself. If you were here in person to show me I'd have it down pat.
I trimmed off these leaves because I could see they were blocking a lot of light. Hope I they don't mind too much lol

How about those big ass leaves that way stick out? They're not in the way so I'd assume leave them, no?

Ahaha I see what you did there "Leave them" .......ba da dum tshhh!

Well at early stages of growth, the primary goal is to build the base for a flat, wide plant structure with thick stems going to the main colas. This is why I remove everything but the outer growth tips during training so the plant has no choice but to send energy outwards and thicken the main stems. Most growers lollipop the lower 6 inches of lateral growth and crap anyways, I just prefer to do it sooner rather than later

In this case since the light is less powerful perhaps it would be best to keep the two fans on for now. However I do think you should get rid of those middle growth tips because they are just going to clog up air flow and not end up producing much bud. Maybe try it on one plant and keep the other as a control?

Ok! Will do! As an estimate, how much time does this training method add to my veg time? I know there's a lot of factors but just a gestimate. I'll be switching to an MH bulb this week.

I am about to update my journal with a post regarding veg times (a lot of folks are asking about this right now). The short answer is this: Most people would yield significantly more if they vegged their plants longer. This method helps give a structure to your training so you don't have to wonder "am I ready to flower yet?". Just flower when you have achieved the number of future main colas you are looking for 4, 8, 16, 32...whatever you want!

I've always been told that. I have a close friend who's been growing for years but he's more of the top twice and leave it alone for two months then set to flower. He'd have a fit if he saw what I just did lol
Is there a certain amount of root mass I should have before flower too or will that come in over time? Cause that's where I feel mine are lacking. Not a many roots hitting the water yet. I'll keep an eye on your post for the update! Thank you!!

Yes, root mass is very important as well. I have never used the 10 inch diameter pots before, maybe the roots are expanding out more laterally and so there is less vertical development? I'll bet in another 2 weeks they will start to fill out more.

Hehe thanks, definitely come in with an open mind though! Most "old time growers" would be horrified by my methods but I say, prove me wrong and I'll happily change my ways! I believe in an evidence based approach to growing and learning

    Another noob grow!

That's exactly what I was thinking Frizz. I started them in rapid rooters then into coco then into the pots. Next time, no coco and no drip rings. Most likely changing to the smaller pots too. That's probably where all my time was spent. Transplant recovery and two weeks worth of lateral root growth before they decided to head south

Ahh well lol. I'm sure they've got a nice root system in the clay by now

Yeah that would definitely make sense. The plus side is that when the roots do start to descend, you should, in theory have an amazing root mass!! All of that extra hydroton to develop roots...
