Could I put COBs in these LED fixtures?

Hey all, all this diy COB fixture threads and we're amped up to try one of our own!
I've been reading a lot of threads on here and on the line, even watched a mouse on the YouTubes! Lol.
But seriously it's still like trying to read Chinese for me! I just cannot retain or comprehend what im reading very well at all.
So as I attempt to explain myself would you please step in and tell me how far off I am?

We have 2 cheap led fixtures from Amazon. One is a "400w" COB fixture. The other is a "300w" regular led fixture.
I'm wondering if we could use some clu048-1212.

The COB fixture has 2 drivers per chip. Is that cause they're 72v chips? And one small driver for the fan.

It uses Ture Full brand drivers.

Output 28-36v-2.1A, that means I can use 1 driver per clu048-1212 right?
Or should we look a similar size citizen of what's already in the fixture?
Can I unscrew the cob from the heat sink to check the back for a brand name, without messing something up?

I downloaded a citizen 1212 info sheet and a Forward voltage vs Forward current chart shows at 2100mA it would be above 38v, would that blow the cob?

Uses 3 drivers, 2 for the led's and one for the fans.

They are also Ture Full drivers, 80-110v 560mA

According to the chart at 560mA it would run about 34v.
So could we use 3 of the 1212's on each driver? Would they run to soft at 560mA?
 
Been looking into this to I want to build my own veg light going to hang around an see what you come up with good luck

Ok so here what I've been able to come up with. Whether or not I'm correct is a whole other story...
I'm thinking of the 2-1812's per 80-110V 560mA driver. According to the citizen pdf, at 560mA it'll be about 50V and 2 of those would make 100V right...?


For the four 28-36V 1200mA drivers I'm thinking a single 1212 per driver. At 1200mA the cob should be pretty close to 36V.
Is that ok to be at the top end of the drivers voltage?

Yes, you can. Running 4 1212' or even 1818's is a much better idea. Your drivers wont be pushing them very hard and 1212's dont push a lot of light anyways so if you run 4 of them or 4 1818's, 2 on the each driver you will have a nice little light.

Yes, you can run 3 on that driver in series. Yes they will run soft but thats not bad.

You could also run 2 of the 1818's on that 80-110v driver.

No problem. 2 per driver. 34x2=68v so you could actually run 3 with each driver. 34x3=102 volts. So with both drivers you have all kinds of options. With 1 driver u run 2 or 3. So with both drivers you can run a grand total of 4,5 or 6 chips lol

You may want to look at the 1818 chip though. Since its a 50v chip you wont need the amperage to get them pushed harder. You could run 2 1818' s per driver at 560ma and that may be much more light. I would need to look at the chip specs.

You will be able to get any of them real close at 560ma.

Too bad your old LED case isnt bigger to spread the chips out a bit more for more canopy coverage though. Im actually doing a MARS light to COB swap right now too. Its previewed in my 42 cob panel thread

Wow the 1818 almost put out twice as much lumens at the same current. I'll definitely go with the 1818's!

No problem. Yep, it mostly because that chip uses twice the voltage instead of twice the current. I hope you keep this thread going during your project. Pretty cool.
By the way. Those were rough figures with their 3500k chips

If I can't find 3500k chips but can find 3000k and 4000k. Which should I go for?

Also ran across this chip Luminus CXM22 Gen3, any thoughts on it?

It would be about the same as the 1818. If your going to use it for both veg and flower go with the 4000k in the citizen chips. The color curve for cree is different than the citizen. Cree I would say 3500k citi 4000k for sure.
