I would like to take this opportunity to thank a local RI legislator who became ill with Cancer and was compassionate enough about RI and its citizens while dying to start up and finish a battle for Medical Marijuana.
This battle was fought in every corner of a State that is almost Puritanical in its views and behavior.
This battle took several years in the State House and Legislature and the polls before finally being passed into law despite a Gubernatorial veto that was overridden by The Complete Legislature.
The law became permanent in 2008 after a 2 yr trial and in 2009 the Governor vetoed legislation for a Compassion Ctr Amendment, and language that clearly protects Dr's that recommend, patients who use, and Caregivers that assist with our needs. This veto was OVERRIDDEN by the Complete Legislature again.
Unfortunately Mr Thomas C. Slater lost his courageous battle against Cancer while Triumphing over an almost Marquis De Sade type Governor, State Police, US Atty. Big Pharmaceuticals, and every bandwagon jumping on "lock'em up" loser in the New England Area.

Isn't it ironic that in a State where pill company reps legally go into your Dr's office everyday, pay for, provide, deliver, and serve, the entire offices lunches, snacks, and drinks, that the Governor, Law Enforcement, and other vested interests, would staunchly oppose this legislation while allowing other clear abuses is unconscionable.
We must ask WHY?
The Drug Lobby perhaps, if they make such monies from their Rx's we purchase that they can afford not only to buy expensive lunches and dinners for Dr's and their staff but send a paid pill pusher to order pick up deliver and pay for this service
Legislation that allows citizens to be free of Big Pharma and grow high quality medicine which works better than many alternatives, at little cost, and at their own convenience is to me a total no brainer.
