Enough light for seedling stage?

This is my set up for my seedlings. Do you guys think this is enough light for the first couple weeks after germination?
After this the seedlings will go under some pretty powerful hps hoods. What wattage should I start out for veg under the bigger hoods once there set up? Thank you guys!

That'll do. I'd switch out the cfls for led bulbs. They give off way less heat and more PAR per watt.
ONLY USE 5000k bulbs for seedlings/Nurselings.
They prevent stretch.

60w equivalent 5000K LED bulbs from Walmart $12 for 2.
850 Lumens per bulb.

This is what I built for seedling to early adult stage. 14 bulbs. All LED. Under $80.

If you can't build a metal box you can use a large shallow litter box or Tupperware container turned upside down. Just add some wood rails to support the bulb holders.

I'll write up a DIY tomorrow in my sig.

Best thing about it is you can turn lights on as you need them. No more 150w for two seedlings. Just turn on 2 bulbs. Done.

I get 10000 Lux reflective lighting with only 10 out of 14 bulbs in.

Holy crap that's pretty impressive considering you built that light set up your self. I tested the lumens last night and it was just shy of 6000 lumens on the top of the cups so it's decent but not quite as bright with what you got going on. I'm gonna definitely be looking into doing the same very soon!

Thanks.
6000 lumens is good. The most important thing is that all your bulbs be 5000k colour range. You don't want to end up with beanstalks.

So this is my new seedling she's about a week old since she sprouted. I've got 5000k LED light bulbs and all together I'm reading at about 10,000 lumens. I'm working on building a pretty large scale LED Hood for the mid veg through flower. Do you think this is good until I can do that? What color spectrum should I be wanting for the later part of this plants life? And how much lumens should I be wanting for a good flower cycle? I appreciate all the help so far man!

That is excellent. Good job.
Some people drop to 2700-3400k range during flower.

Instead of building a large led hood it is cheaper and more efficient to build a COB array. 3 COBs with one driver will set you back about $230-$250 but will only use 150w and will output 30,000 to 40,000 lumens.

nice man they look great :goodjob: i got a couple seedling under a 400w cfl light but i'm struggling to know the distance that the light have to be from the new babies.

Do you recommend a brand I look into or maybe a website?

I've heard to prevent stretch you keep them within 4 to 6 inches from the top of your plants.

Stretch is determined by light frequency. Seedlings and veg period plants will seek out blue light in the 440 nm range. Budding plants like the 650nm (red light) range.
