Hello everyone . I have a 315w cmh . The guy at the grow shop said it would be a lot cooler than MH . Was he just selling? Anyone use ceramic metal halide and can comment ?

Take the actual wattage draw and multiply it by 3.412142 BTU/hr.

That is the heat load that a particular light will draw.

For example, a 400w HPS with ballast probably draws about 415w total

415 x 3.412142 = 1416 BTU per hour

A 315 Ceramic runs around 360w total,

360 x 3.412142 = 1228.32 BTU per hour

So yes the CMH runs cooler, but not because of the difference in technology. It's because it requires less wattage for operation :)
