But if you had a 600w dimmable ballast (660/600/400/250) and had a 600w hps bulb installed but dimmed to 400w would this bulb run hotter than a 400w if installed and on the same setting ?
 
It is going to run at just about the same heat as it would set at 600 the reason for this is regardless of what you have it set on you are pulling the 600 from the wall whether or not you are using it is another story but even running it at full power or at minimal power you're going to use the same amount of electricity
 
Thanks for your reply but i think you are wrong. Its a Lumii digita btw but when dimmed the ballast draws less amps , which means less wattage is drawn. Thanks again , hopefully someone else has some input
