Female pollen only breeding?

It seems easy to turn a female plant into a male now a days (colloidal silver and stuff).

Is there any genetic reason a breeding program would prefer male pollen instead of female pollen?

Obviously if for some reason someone wanted male offspring they would need to pollinate with a male plant, but is there any other reason?

Fem genetics carry over to the seeds so the offspring are less stable and more prone to herm than properly bred genetics.
