Trim preferences - How & why?

Starting this due to the discussion in NOTM contest (where it doesn't belong).

So, how do you like yr bud trimmed? Feel free to post photos of how you like to your bud trimmed.

I'll start: I generally like a trim that's a bit shaggy w/ plenty of frost leaves. Besides being an interesting look that retains the appearance of the plant, I think the frosty leaves are every bit as punchy as the rest of the plant & provide a nice flavor.

But who cares what I like? Let's have a discussion, including manicuring tips & dos & don'ts.

re: Trim preferences - How & why?

Trimmin.....love hate relationship there! I've tried trimming wet while on or off plant n that's the worst. I've let dry and that's easier but end up with hash fingers and build up on scissors. I've found if I catch it at just the right time and trim while still on branches, maybe 2 or 3 days before completely dry it doesn't gum up the scissors or your fingers as bad. And no machine will trim hand quality in my opinion. Anyways, here's a few pics of how I like my finished buds.

Beautiful work on all fronts! I agree on machine trimming.

(& I'm always happy to have the finger/scissor hash as a side-bene after a day of trimming).

It just SUCKS we have good growers on this site that take the time and love to produce amazing cannabis, and then here comes some TOTALLY untrimmed purple bud and boom all these people are like OMG thats the best!!!! If you look at the leader it's never even seen scissors, or it seems... trichomes. I get it, it's based on opinions and a lot of people here are inexperienced so I can see why it got the votes. How do we educate those people?

I'm not one to throw anyone under the bus or criticize other people's work but I understand the frustration. I use to enter NOTM & POTM regularly, while I wasn't necessarily expecting to win I was baffled that many months I wouldn't receive votes and others were winning with lower quality buds (in my opinion) that just didn't stack up. I don't mind not winning to good competition at all. The one thing that frustrated me to no end was buds and plants that win multiple times n keep getting entered over n over. There's the same pics that are still being entered from years ago. If ya win then grow something new n take a new pic. In the end it comes down to the voters n that's the only thing that matters n there isn't a damn thing we can change about that. Just keep trying!

I don’t think dismissing folks’ preferences as purely a matter of lack of experience will help towards educating. I also don’t think there’s clear “right” way to trim. I think current somewhat popular aesthetic of super shaved trim is a fairly recent artifact of photographic bud porn & folks having assumed that that's what's "right."

Nothing wrong w/ shaggy bud in my book & I rather liked the trim on the bud yr kvetching about.

& that’s certainly not due to inexperience, though it might be due to other things.
