Nevada lawmakers discussed a measure to end the prohibition on recreational marijuana use in the state last Friday. Advocates of the measure wish to use the resulting tax revenues — potentially as high as $1.5 billion per year — toward education.

The proposed bill would place a 25 percent tax on all manufacturers, distributors and buyers of marijuana.

Republicans on the committee voiced concerns about the measure, which would make legal activity which is declared as illegal by federal law.
