Discussions were fairly limited on what could be the city's first medical-marijuana dispensary during Monday night's City Council meeting.

Representatives from the nonprofit corporation, Alternative Therapies Group Inc., were unable to attend the meeting, but attorney Peter Campobasso, who filed the special-permit petition on behalf of the group, was present to speak.

"Unfortunately, they could not be here tonight due to the weather," Campobasso said. "But they do look forward to meeting and presenting the petition themselves before this body and look forward to working with the city."

Alternative Therapies Group opened the state's first dispensary in Salem last June. The location of the proposed Leominster location would be at 57 Nashua St.

The petition for the dispensary was given regular course by the council, with referrals to the city's Planning Board, Planning Department, building inspector, Mayor's Office, Department of Health, and Office of Economic Development.

A public hearing to discuss the petition further is set for March 28 at 6:45 p.m.
