Victoria city council put the final stamp on their new pot shop bylaw at Thursday night's council meeting.

Among the new requirements now in effect, all medical marijuana retailers need to be rezoned, a process that comes with a $7,500 fee, and they'll need to obtain a business license, a process that comes with a $5,000 fee.

Applications will be accepted starting Friday. But, a business license will not be issued until the rezoning is approved. In order to qualify pot shops need to meet new requirements such a 200-metre distance between retailers as well as from schools.

And, also of note, medical marijuana retailers that have been operating since before July 28th can continue to operate while they sort out licensing and rezoning. However, newer operations are expected to stop until they meet the new requirements.
