A passenger tried to board a flight with bags of marijuana.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Arcata-Eureka Airport on Friday. A passenger boarding a commercial flight was carrying a large amount of marijuana. Twelve one pound bags were found in his checked baggage.

Thirty-six year old Michael Morgensen of Arcata was detained, cited, and his pot seized. He was later allowed to board the plane.

The investigation is being forwarded to the DEA and FBI.

Actually, up until about a month ago, airports in medical states like CA have permitted people to bring marijuana on the plane with them, regardless of quantity. I know someone who carried 10 pounds in their carry on luggage through LAX about a year ago. TSA's official policy was 'We cannot stop people from taking their medication with them out of state.' However, about a month ago, TSA announced it would seize all cannabis products being moved through the airport. This is why the marijuana was seized. It is a new TSA policy.
