A veteran city correction officer was busted by a drug-detecting dog as he tried to smuggle marijuana into a jail, authorities said Sunday.

Christian Mizell, 48, of Jamaica, Queens, was nabbed by the front gate of the Manhattan Detention Complex on Saturday morning, court records show.

He was caught with "three large bundles" that contained 6 ounces of marijuana, prosecutors said. Mizell, who joined the department in November 2005, earned $114,145 last year.

The drugs were going to be sold for $6,000 in the facility, according to the criminal complaint.

Prison inmates have started using drones to smuggle contraband

At his arraignment, Judge Abena Darkeh let him go with supervised release. Mizell did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

City officials have struggled to control the proliferation of drugs being smuggled into jails.

The amount of drug contraband discovered has gone up by 39% in fiscal year 2017, which ended June 30. There were 1,150 narcotics found during the fiscal year – up from 829 in 2016 and 677 in 2015, records show.
