MI: All-In-One Medical Marijuana Facilities To Be Allowed Under New Rules

A new medical marijuana facility licensed by the state will be able to grow, process and sell medical marijuana at the same location, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs announced on Thursday.

The legislature last year passed legislation to legalize and regulate medical marijuana dispensaries, but left some particulars up to the departmental rulemaking process.

One of the open questions was whether somebody licensed for growing, processing and 'provisioning' -- that is, actually selling the medical marijuana to patients - would be able to do more than one of those activities at the same physical location.

LARA today announced that its intent was to allow multiple licenses to operate out of one facility if the following conditions are met:

-The Department authorizes the licensees to operate at the same location

-The facility must have separate working areas, entrances, exits, point of sale operations and record keeping systems in place for each license.

-The co-location is in keeping with local ordinance or zoning regulations.

-The licensees comply with all local and state regulations for building inspection, fire safety and public health standards.

The complete advisory bulletin on the issue is available here. The department noted it was subject to change.

The state's new Medical Marihuana Licensing Board begins accepting applications for medical marijuana facilities on Dec. 15.
