An American citizen from Arizona is accused of trying to smuggle more than one hundred pounds of marijuana into the United States.

Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped the 43-year-old man from Tucson at an immigration checkpoint near Whetstone, Arizona.

Authorities found bundles of marijuana in the trunk of his Chevy Malibu. The discovery came after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor in the car, prompting a second inspection.

Investigators believe the drugs are worth more than $58,000.

The man is facing federal drug smuggling charges.
